I just finished seeing the movie, A Beautiful Mind.
This is like my fourth time seeing it, I haven’t seen it in a long time.
Honestly I was kind of disappointed this time around.
Russel Crowes acting was mediocre at best, and I felt that they were kind of putting a positive spin on the fact John Nash was not taking his medication in the film.
It was not like I remembered it to be.
Oh well, still a good movie over all.
Anyone like or not like this movie?
I thought Russel’s acting was spot on, especially when he became deep in the throes of his delusions…I agree with you though that it tried to make it “o k” not to take your meds…something I strongly disagree with…for the normals watching the show I think maybe they were surprised when they found out he was just insane. good movie in my opinion over all and John Nash was a genius with his mathematics.
I saw it as a teen, but I don’t remember what I thought of it. My uncle had Sz, so I had something to base it on.
I thought that it was a wonderful love story.
His wife really loved him and stuck by his side through some hard times.
It’s so sad how they died.
In a car crash.
They died together.
My wife won’t watch it , it brings back my phycocis to her in a big way. Especially when the baby is crying and he’s just zoned out. I would hold my infant son and he would start crying and I would be all wrapped up in my delusions and just not respond to him. It would really upset her. Makes her cry to watch the movie. I like the movie myself.
Yeah he was holding his baby and zoned out.
I remember that scene.
I was very familiar with Nash’s life, and I read the book, so I was very disappointed in the movie. Frankly, the movie was a sugarcoated fairytale of Nash’s schizophrenia.
If you want to see a realistic depiction of a person struggling with schizophrenia check out Clean, Shaven .
Yeah thanks @kindness.
I just might check it out.
U should watch kpax, it’s like beautiful mind but more trippy
Thanks @Esm.
Just saw your trailer and it looks interesting.
Another movie on SZ to consider.
@Wave it’s been a while since I’ve seen it. But I remember it being a good film. However I don’t think it’s an accurate portrayal of all schizophrenics. Like for example the sz’s who end up homeless or incarcerated because their symptoms are so bad.
Take care
Spoiler alert…
@Esm
It’s been a long time since I saw K-Pax, but I remember at the end, I came to believe that the main character really was an alien. Other people who saw the movie tell me “no, he was mentally ill” but the screenplay makes it so that you can’t draw a definite conclusion…
I never realized how his analysis of numbers was him being obsessed with numerology. Said that in the intro of the book A beautiful mind. I guess even the best of us szs become obsessed with the occult. Glad I’m over that.
I really liked the movie. I thought Russell Crowe did a great job!! When he didn’t take his meds he went crazy again.
I watched Clean Shaven and totally agree that it was a pretty hauntingly accurate depiction. Not a block-buster movie but very real, I thought.
When I saw A Beautiful Mind, I cried because it was one of the first (for me) to give dignity to someone with sz. I liked it.
Beautiful mind watched because you shouldn’t ave.
Each one of our kinds is beautiful so why watch russel Crowe act out what we live through every day
