Has anyone ever lost weight

From reducing or switching your antipsychotic?

I’m worried that my risperidone weight isn’t going to come off even after I taper down.

I’ve never experienced weight loss from reducing or stopping an AP, but i managed to lose 145 lbs while taking a notorious weight-gainer, clozapine. I used liraglutide first, then Mounjaro, and i tracked everything i ate and walked a lot every day. I’ve gained back about 5 lbs in the last 2 months while on Zyprexa and Cobenfy, but i got lazy with my eating…i need to go back to logging my intake religiously but it’s the holidays so I’m not gonna beat myself up over it.

When i went off Olanzapine earlier in the year, I lost close to 15 pounds in about a month.

Don’t reccomend stopping your meds like I did. Most sz people need meds.

Im back on Olanzapine and im tracking the calories I eat. No more than 1500 a day for me.

I worry about the same thing.

I’ve lost weight multiple times before being on APs.

I’ve always struggled with my weight.

Haven’t had any luck since being on meds

I take abilify btw… which is supposed to be a weight neutral med, but if you ask the users like me that is BS

I have. I was put on Topamax too. But I get psychotic or paranoid on Topamax. I’ve gotten down to like 210-220 lbs.

My normal weight is 170-180 lbs. I’m currently like 280 lbs.

I eat like crap and don’t exercise. I think I have AP induced weight gain. I eat better and half as much off meds, but I realize I need to take them for the rest of my life.

A long time ago I quit olanzapine cold turkey, and within about 6 months I had lost all the weight I had gained on that med, which was a lot.

The only thing that sucked for me that when I was dieting I was constantly thinking about food.

I had to reduce my antipsychotic dose significantly in order to be able to loose weight. Not personally a fan of switching antipsychotics.

Hi @frenchman, I’m slowly losing weight by not binge eating. And exercising regularly. I was on 15 mg in 2016 and slowly over the years, the dose was reduced. It’s abilify. So from 15mg to 10mg, to 5mg to 2.5mg atm.

Good luck

@frenchman, which medications are. You on?

Years ago I was almost 235 pounds
Today I weigh 174 pounds

This was achieved through sheer determination with a lot of work

Mounjaro helps a lot and so does calorie counting

I’ve also increased my movement (step tracking)

I recently added weightlifting to my schedule

It’s possible to lose weight on weight gains meds like risperidone

I’m on two weight gaining meds, risperidone and Depakote

I have abilify 400 maintena depakote 2000 cymbalta 30 buspirone 20 and loxapine 200. But i had problems with autority and police in the past and i am in obligation to take all these drugs. In the past my minimum dose in monotherapy was just 2,5 mg of abilify daily and I was well with just it. My psy IS a fool !
