Has any males had trouble with increased prolactin due to antipsychotics?

I’m starting to get worried now about my breasts. They are increasing by a lot, which is not just due to my weight gain. And they will sometimes produce milk. This has been going on for about a year now, but I was too embarrassed to say anything about it. I’m concerned that I could get breast cancer or something later down the road.

Has anyone recovered from this? I realize this might be too sensitive so I understand if no one will want to say anything. I’m just in search for answers because I don’t want to stop my 4mg of risperdal, which has helped a lot in managing my positive symptoms.

You need to talk to your doctor immediately. Its likely a side effect from your anti-psychotic. They’ll change the drug for you and it will go away. Don’t suffer in silence.

It’s risperdal, it can raise prolactin.

I think but I’m not 100 percent positive that I’ve produced some milk from Risperdal before.
But it was a very small amount.

I continued to take the Risperdal without telling my doctor because I was too embarrassed.

I won’t do this again if the problem reoccures.

I think you should tell your doctor because of the risk for breast cancer.

Talk to your Dr. I have low sex drive on 4mg Risperdal but no lactation. I thought men don’t have mammary glands.

Zyprexa doesn’t increase prolactin. I was psychotic on any dose of Zyprexa but it may work for you!

You should also see an endocrinologist and test for low testosterone. Risperdal lowers testosterone.

I would have a word with your Doc. I have blood tests every 3 months for partly the same reason, they do a liver test as well. Tho mine have never been high. In on the invega jab too - which makes you prone to it.

Nothing to be embaressed about - its hardly your fault.

I had sexual dysfunction and low testosterone when I was on Risperidone. I went on Zyprexa for a while, but had a big weight gain and elevated blood sugar. I’m on Abilify now and my blood sugar is down, I’m losing weight, and my sexual functioning has come back.

Ask your pdoc to add low dose abilify(1-5mg) to reduce prolactin.

I think Geodon and/or Seroquel has increased my breast size. I look like a ninety year old woman with my shirt off. I don’t want to change med’s, because Geodon and Seroquel are the only two antipsychotics that control my symptoms without deadening my mind. In my case, a sedentary lifestyle contributes to the decline of my physique.

I’m on xeplion and I have no sex drive and sexual dysfunction. I really want to change medication, but my doctor has refused. It’s very depressing to be married and have sexual dysfunction.

“Elevated levels of prolactin decrease the levels of sex hormones — estrogen in women and testosterone in men”

Talk to your doc. The normal treatment like @Wave said is they’ll add a small amount of abilify to the mix.

I’m on abilify only and so don’t have that issue.

But the sooner you talk to your doctor the better. Ask them about adding a small dose of abilify.

I was warned about the heightened prolactin levels and possible breast enlargement in males before I started Risperdal by my Psychiatrist. I wish you the best!

My prolactin has been high on Amisulpride for two years. It’s like 3 times higher than it should be

The pharmacist is giving me 5mg Aripiprozole to help reduce it

It went down 9% on last test and all that has changed is I am exercising more

LS! I take 4 milligrams of Risperdal daily. I have read on the about prolactin and breasts and decided to have my prolactin levels checked. It was 3.0 where 3,7 was the maximum safe reference value. So thank you forum!
