I have been taking risperidone 0.5 since few days. Pdoc wants me to slowly increase it to 2mg.
But I want to know if i increase it to 2mg, can a guy like me develop enlarged breasts(gynecomastia) on low doses as well ?
Risperdal is a good drug for some. It can raise prolactin.
I got off of it because I got sore nipples. That ended up being a good thing because I do so much better on zyprexa.
I’d say it’d be rare. I didn’t take the chance but risperdal seems a good drug to take care of positive symptoms. It works well for a lot. My honest opinion is try it first. If your still getting symptoms it’s not working but it’s deal with symptoms first. Side effects later…
It’s common these days to rail against side effects but that isn’t something people did years ago!

You need to get your prolactin levels monitored. The chances are slim that you’ll develop gyno

My positive symptoms are already controlled 100% on clozapine 200mg.
We just added risperidone because of qtc prolongation on clozapine and risperidone helps with cognition also(working memory, executive functioning). My recent qtc report came back normal, so its optional for me to add risperidone or not. Pdoc said we can lower clozapine and add risperidone
Risperidone raised prolactin levels and weight gain for me so what could happen is you put on weight around that area as any one else would with weight gain, but you wouldnt grow enlarged mammory glands. On 2mg i got cravings for food but my weight didnt change until i was on 6mg-8mg, then it shot up. I think low dose will be okay weight wise but keep an eye on cravings
My first ever medication was Risperdal. It made me feel very reluctant and sexually imponotentic - I’m on Zypadhera injection - which works betterly for me.
I took Risperidone for awhile and am now off of it because it raised my prolactin so much that I started lactating, ugh. I was on a high dose though, like 6-8 mg. Now I’m on Zyprexa again and it’s better.
I took risperidone 1mg 2x a day. No breast enlargement but was lactating. Oh and very hungry. Very, very hungry.

After how many days/months did u develop A cups ?
I already had some degree of breast tissue to start with, but several months of risperdal got them growing and discontinuing the med didn’t stop the growth immediately as far as I can tell.
It may sound kind of weird, but I very much like them. Nobody has given me any flack about them either.
Akathisia is what got me off risperdal. Otherwise, I’d still be on it and thought it was a good med.
My pdoc asked me if I noticed any change and I said it something upset me, I had a few second delay before having any emotional reaction (hypersensitivity to noise due to autism) and he smiled and said that it sounded like it was working.
I just wouldn’t worry about the breast growth. Not everyone gets it from a low dose. Akathisia or TD is what would worry me.
