Happy new years! 2023 was not good to me so I’m looking forward to 2024 <3 I’ve also been sleeping a lot better since switching from risperidone to Geodon so thank you to everyone who made recommendations. I hope it doesn’t give me insomnia in the future

I was scared it was permanent. I’ve always been someone who loved sleep. I used to sleep all the time. I’ve been sleeping in the last few mornings so it’s nice. Still waking up at night but nothing I can’t handle

I’ve been sleeping very poorly on Abilify. Hopefully that gets better this year

Good. I could sympathize beucase when they upped my dose of risperidone 4 years ago I got terrible akathisia and insomnia, actually thought I was gonna die from lack of sleep, it was horrible. 
I think the body can react when going up in dose on medications and it takes time to stabelize.
(I went off risperidone and the sleep normalized)
I’m sorry to hear that friend. I didn’t do well on Abilify. It made me feel like I was on drugs. I couldn’t sleep or sit still. It wasn’t a good time in my life. I hope you find relief in 2024
That’s what happened to me. Everything was great on risperidone until we increased my dose to 4mg. My sleep slowly started decreasing. What med did you switch to after risperidone? I’ve seen a lot that Geodon can cause some serious insomnia so I pray that doesn’t happen to me

Similar to me, I was on 2mg risperidone, everything fine, they upped it to 4 mg and suddenly it started happening.
I went off risperidone and didn’t go on other medications after that (at the time).
When I got psychosis a year later I started on olanzapine. (about 20mg, which is a fairly high dose). I got sleep problems and akathisia this time but it wasn’t nearly as bad as with risperidone.
The akathisia and sleep problems from olanzapine went away completely after a few weeks.
Now I’m still on olanzapine, no sleep problems.

I’m too afraid to go off medication. I thought about it because my sleep was so bad but I’m too afraid of the voices. I’m glad it worked out for you in the end 
my prescriber won’t give me olanzapine because of the weight gaining properties so I can’t get on that one otherwise that would’ve been my next med change. She gave me the option of latuda or Geodon so I went with Geodon. So far so good. I hope my sleep continues to improve

Btw, not everyone gets weight gain from zyprexa. Just something to be aware of. I don’t

That’s good to know. I wanted to try it out but my prescriber said no lol idk why. I did gain a lot of weight on risperidone. I had to buy a new wardrobe

I know this thread is days old but how long were you off the risperidone before your sleep normalized? I’ve been off for 2 weeks now & im still sleeping terribly

The best advice I can give for insomnia is lie down get as comfortable as you can with loose clothes in a position easy on blood flow and just forget about wanting to sleep and enjoy just lying there and resting. Dont worry and dont fret the sleep will come.

I can`t remember it was so long ago, but it was a few weeks at most I believe, definitely not over a month. At least I think so.
What med did you change to again? You said your sleep had gotten slighty better after going off risperidone?
I switched to Geodon. I had slept in two days in a row & it was great but I haven’t done it since. Still waking up in the middle of the night & waking up really early. Like 6 am is when I get up
