The studies say that the risk of getting sz from hallucinogens permanently is much lower than people imagine. But when you take hallucinogens, the whole point is to induce temporary SZ because altered states of consciousness have been valued by mankind for thousands of years…why the aztecs did mescaline, the hippies did LSD, and jesus did shrooms…(lol im making that up but who knows)…but i read that during the 1950’s psychiatrists used to take LSD and check themselves into the psych ward for 48 hours to gain an empathy for their patients. To understand what firsthand it’s like to have psychosis while being in a psych ward. I wonder if this is why my pdoc is so good with people with SZ??? Because he did LSD in the 60’s and 70’s he’s told me. But he’s gotten a taste of SZ and he seems very empathetic. Plus he’s a good guy but who knows this could have had some influence on his practice…
Even though he doesn’t need meds…he’s absolutely cooky and it’s hard for me to consider him a “normie” with all his experience in the field and because he has drug experiences like that which have made him crazier, but not to a “breaking point” where he had an episode… I think if you have a bad trip (which is always a possibility) the chances of developing mental illness are pretty good…especifially if it’s ultra horrific and traumatizing. I honestly think PTSD is the most common mental illness developed from hallucinogens, instead of SZ. When I had the worst trip I could have possibly imagined using LSD, I didn’t become psychotic right away. I had PTSD for months on end, then I seeked medication for my anxiety and they gave me Wellbutrin which lead to my psychotic break. Because apparently I couldn’t take anti-depressants. It was bad… But I feel if you’re a person with little mental illness risk and you take a controlled dose, and you don’t have a terrible trip, the risk of mental illness are near none from hallucinogens. But they need to study these drugs more but can’t since they’re highly illegal…
There’s a big deal being made about taking 1/30th of the dose the hippies used to take in the 70’s it’s called “microdosing” and supposed to treat anxiety and depression. Some lady wrote a book about it and it’s garnered national attention. And they’re talking about bringing medicinal LSD. I also heard about medicinal ecstasy being legal by 2021 for PTSD, but not sure what country that article was based in.
don’t drink the cool aid.
yeah. Taking lsd helped me later with my psychosis but it’s chalk and cheese.
You can talk people down from tripping. You can’t talk ■■■■ down with a psychotic.
It’s similar brain chemistry but that 70’s ■■■■ was too much. Lsd as therapy…i’d love that but it’s all just biochemicals.
It’s like pot for schizophrenics. Helps a lot of normals but it’s poison for schizphrenics. I still have met sz people who smoke pot regularly. That is just stupid.
Even Kesey in the end said it was bogus…and he just ended up being a nada.
A friend in the struggle,
rogueone.
A bad trip o acid is very difference to being high on acid. I’ve had psychotic breaks that were 100 percent the same as the bad trips before i ever took acid. I was extremely stupid to take it afterwards. Any psychedelic I took now would be me into a severe state ofbpsychosis that I wouldn’t be able to be talked through on it. I think it’s crazy and can’t believe paranoid people can smoke weed or do psychedelics and not go into psychosis everytime. I seem to think there quite a few bullhiggies in that ďpartment.
