So I’m in Las Vegas, flew out from Michigan for the Sick New World metal festival, built a vacation around it.
The only bad part is that they should’ve opened the gates an hour sooner. By the time I made it through the gate, the first band (nonpoint) was done, and I was able to catch just the last song from the second band I wanted to see (Kittie).
It wasn’t too hot, but still had to keep well hydrated.
My top five performances:
A Perfect Circle
System of a Down
Slipknot
Primus
Jinjer
Lorna Shore was great too.
I took mostly videos, wish I could post some here, got just a few pics.
@ThePickinSkunk SOAD was incredible. Pretty impressive that they have most (or all??) of the same members. Besides Serj, they had their same guitarist and bassist. The only one I’m not sure about is if it’s the same drummer. Slipknot, on the other hand, has had a lot of recent lineup changes, though they still were great.
@freakonaleash Thanks so much for the update! I’m thrilled you had such a great time. Wonderful news!
I know all the bands you listed that were your top favorites. Good deal!!
I’ll bet it was just awesome to hear them live. Wow! I haven’t been to a concert in so many years. It’s exhilarating, isn’t it? So glad you got to experience this.
I thought I was going to freak out here and there due to the large number of people in attendance, and I was quite uncomfortable, quite nervous at first, but I settled in and just stayed toward the back of the crowd to avoid people crowding me.
It wasn’t as nerve-wracking as I thought it would be.
I still was keeping one hand on my phone, for fear of pickpockets. I do that a lot at concerts, though.
Something this festival taught me is that at 44 years old I can handle only one day of that. Screw spending 3-4 days at a festival.
I also got a couple Vegas souvenirs: a skull coffee cup and a large beer cozy intended for 24 oz cans. I don’t drink alcohol often, but when I do it’s often in the form of 24 oz cans of Budweiser.
My mates and me who I see regularly grew up with live music so now we are all much older…over 50 we are looking at seeing more live acts. We all still love music but life is now coming around where we have more time and I’m keen as mustard…not sure any festivals but some decent shows is on the agenda!
Hell yeah, enjoy some concerts! This was my first festival, though I attended probably around ten regular concerts last year, love it. Most of those concerts were at small venue, just a few hundred people. This festival was huge.
I took a couple pics of the festival grounds from the observation deck of a very tall tower. The festival grounds are the large area with blacktop and some (artificial) grass.
Yeah APC’s performance was my favorite of the night. Then again, they’re one of my favorite bands, had never seen them before, a bucket list band crossed off my list. Hell, I have a small APC tattoo. Really, SOAD and Slipknot were also bucket list bands that I have now seen. Other than Rammstein I can’t think of any other bands that I desperately want to see for the first time.
