Over the last week I’ve been manic. Elevated mood and my most problematic(to me) symptom, hypersexuality. Especially with a trauma background.
Luckily, nothing unsafe or any meetups happened. Thank goodness. I was able to keep myself contained. But now I’m dealing with some self hate over it.
And possibly an overall comedown from the manic high.
Reali,ed in therapy today that the precursor to this episode was depression, stress and seeing shadows again.
It seems calm for now. Aside from being really hard on myself at the moment. And having to deal with some trauma responses.
I thought after switching off abilify the hypersexuality would go away, but seems its just an added symptom when manic.
I just don’t know quite what to do next. I have case management tomorrow though. And peer group on friday.
Any advice or good wishes are welcome. Just trying to figure out my next steps.

I’m on abilify/aripirazole and I find that I get episodes of Mania too. I’m not active in term of sex so I don’t get hyper sexuality. But I have in the past had symptoms you that you could nail down to hyper sexuality. For me the only thing that really helped was gym/fitness.
I have never been manic but it sounds exhausting. I hope your treatment team can help you find some stability and relief from this.
I have an idea. Start keeping a mood and action diary. Log every mood, time of day, and any action taken as a result of that mood (good or bad).
Take this to your next appointment with your pdoc and see what can be done to help you

It’s not your fault.
You did well not to do anything risky.
@LilyoftheValley has a great idea, i.e. keeping a mood diary.
Make sure you tell your psychiatrist. I’m not sure a therapist can help all that much but I could be wrong.
