I was planning on growing lettuce but I didn’t get started soon enough. next year i’m planning to start them the last week of march or first week of april.
I still wanted some fresh greens, so I did some research on greens I could grow this time of year and planted beets for the beet greens, some mustard, and more kale. also planted half a bed of onions. I had to buy 200 ft. of garden hose because my nearest water spicket is leaking.
will put in the jalapenos sometime later. and then in the fall i’ll start some lettuce.
filled up all of my beds and now dad says im allowed to add some more
Sounds like you’ve got it under control. My dad will be putting out his tomatoes soon. He’s waiting a little longer this year because last year we had a late frost and it killed his plants. So he had to get all new ones.
mom and dad went looking for some ornamental landscape ideas for their new place today. im not as interested in ornamentals. I like to grow plants I can consume or get some kind of use out of. although I am planning to put in some groundcover around my house in the front and on the sides. and in the back where it’s shady going to put in a bunch of hostas.
also I need to cut down some evergreen trees in the front. im not sure what species they are. anyways was thinking of maybe replacing them with some grasses for a landscape and maybe some peach trees. the peach trees have a pretty bloom in the spring and do well in this climate. mom’s are blooming right now across the street.
Usually plant potatoes in the garden. Theyre easy to take care of and you can make some good food with them. I’m planning on picking up some more potted plants when the green houses open. I can’t believe the small leaf of a plant i bought last summer has grown all winter. It keeps trying to flower but no dice, it’s in a very large pot now. I want to see how huge it will get if i keep taking care of it.
That’s awesome though that you got your garden started. It’s too cold here right now for gardening.
