Got home from the hospital today

Hi guys, gals, and pals. I just got out of the mental hospital. Today was day 9. So, a little over a week. They were planning to keep me longer, but my insurance doesn’t want to pay for any further stay. Yay for American healthcare!

My diagnosis is still schizoaffective bipolar type, BUT my psychiatrist (at the hospital) thinks I have something else. He said something like, “schizoaffective fits you best, but only because you don’t match anything else, and schizoaffective is the closest we can get”. He says my family probably has some really rare disorder, cause my mom is ill (and treatment resistant), my 3 siblings are ill (and treatment resistant), and I’m ill (and treatment resistant)! Like, it’s crazy that my entire family inherited some kind of psychotic illness that might be a neurological condition.

He said that I’m very complicated. Too complicated. Apparently.

He recommended that I go to the Mayo Clinic to figure out what I really have (and what the rest of my family really has). I found out that my insurance covers the Mayo Clinic, but we would probably have to save up money for a hotel stay, the travel expenses, and everything else.

I did have some memory testing done, at the hospital. There is now documented proof that my memory is poor. I feel happy that I have proof, but sad that they couldn’t tell me why… So, maybe the Mayo Clinic could figure out the why. My memory is getting worse and worse, each passing year, and I’m only 30.

Side note: While I was in the hospital, I drew a picture of my dog, Wesley… and I tried to wright his name, but I forgot how to spell his name. I accidentally spelled “Wesly”, forgetting the second E. That upset me. How could I forget how to spell my own dog’s name?

Anyway, my brother was in THE SAME HOSPITAL as me AT THE SAME TIME. We were admitted on the same day. We ran into each other twice! In the cafeteria! (You have to get clearance from your psychiatrist to go down to the cafeteria, and everyone is closely supervised).

Wild.

Anyway… I’m back. Thanks for reading! :owl: :feather:

You should definitely go. It would be great if they could find out what’s wrong.

Stress really affects my memory! I try to stay calm at all times. As soon as I’m stressed my memory starts messing with me. My grandfather died from dementia, so I’m scared I’ll go the same way as he did.
