Got a confirmation letter today that I am now my own payee

I got a confirmation letter today that said they approved my request to be my own ssdi payee & even sent me an updated medicare card one of those new ones without your ssn on them… I’m sure I will be under review soon because of it … I hope not but it says right on the ssa website requesting to be your own payee could trigger a review process of your benefits…

I’m a little in the dark here being Australian, so I’m just gonna ask - what is the significance of being your own payee, what does this mean?

It essentially means there is no middle man to your government issued benefits, basically someone else is in charge of your money when you have a payee, when you are your own payee you get to decide how it’s spent not someone else

That’s a new one on me. I’ve collected SSDI for years and managed my own money for most of the time and I’ve never had that done.

It was determined at the time of me applying for ssdi I was not capable of handling my own finances & I would have to agree I was not

Congratulations but I’ve always been my own payee. I don’t think they view it that I’m not disabled because I am my own payee.

When is the last time you had a review ?

2015 I walked into a Social Security office at the beginning of 2016 and the lady set me up for a review and I filled it out and they sent it back to me saying that they were gonna review me right now

Let me clarify it was 2015 was the last time I was reviewed in the beginning of 2016 I walked into a Social Security office with a problem and a few days later I get a letter that I’m I’m undergoing a Social Security review because I had told that lady that I was working part-time so she set me up I sent it into them and they sent it back to me stating that they weren’t gonna review me right now

I’m actually more concerned that working can affect whether or not they kick you off of disability even though I don’t really make enough that’s considered substantial earnings I’m still kinda concerned about it
