social Security determined I’m not able to manage my own money, and gave me my husband as my payee. He has to keep an account separate my one with me to accept my payments to and he has to keep records of how he spends my money. Do you get your own money or does someone else get it for you?
I had a representative payee for about a year and a half and they (two women), were ripping people off blind. Social Security caught onto them and fired them. I never did find out if they went to jail or not. Social Security wasn’t talking. Anyway, I haven’t trusted payee’s ever since. I get and manage my own money very well, thank you.
How did you get them to let you have your own money? @Skinnyme1?
I volunteered to have a representative payee. It wasn’t court ordered or suggested by my pdoc. I thought that a payee could help me to save money. I was wrong. I do better on my own.
I don’t have a payee. The subject never came up
@Skinnyme1 how did you switch over to being your own payee?
Easily. I volunteered to have a representative payee. It was not court ordered or doctor ordered. So, it was a simple matter for me to just say I didn’t want it anymore.
@Skinnyme1 I thought your Dr has to write a note saying your condition has changed to get off it. ??? That’s what I read on the SS website.
He did. 1515151515
Did you lose your benefits as a result @Skinnyme1?
I had my dad as payee in the past. I’m very lucky. Now, I can manage my own money. It’s better if you can do it yourself.
I’m afraid to lose my benefits if a Dr says my condition has changed because that’s what he has to sign for me to get my benefits in my own name.
