Good news; I am (oddly) free of my extreme delusions despite running out of meds for 3 weeks and having to find a new prescriber. I have been hospitalized for 2 to 3 weeks at a time 13 times in the last 8 years.= for being bat-■■■■-crazy
Bad news; I have gained 50 pounds in one year on the AP’s I just got off of. None of my clothes fit. I wear long, big dresses. It’s SO depressing.
I was thin my whole life until my nervous breakdown in 2015 when I was put on AP’s. My new meds are Risperdal and Trileptal. I was on them from 2015 to 2017 and I slept a lot. Other AP’s give me bad insomnia and, sometimes, akathisia
I hope a newer med might have less weight gain.I have a friend recently put on an expensive weight injection, Zepbound. She is losing weight while on high dose of Abilify.
How do you lose a prescriber and have to find a new doctor?
They shouldn’t release you without medication IMO. I hope you find a provider.
My pdoc is considering Latuda
Apparently it’s an AP with the least chances of weight gain
Try taking a medication like Saxenda, Ozempic, Wegovy, or Zepbound. Go to a nutritionist.
I’ve personally found that the combination of haldol and caplyta is extremely effective if your insurance covers caplyta. We’re struggling to get caplyta because of the insurance plan not covering it. The best part about this combination is no weight gain and you can in fact lose a bunch of weight. I was anorexic when my symptoms started, but then gained most of the 200 pounds in one year because of abilify. But since the summer of 2022, I’ve lost near a hundred pounds. I’d try to find a new medication if risperidone even slightly gains you weight in the inaugural doses that lead to effectiveness. Risperidone can be one of the worst weight gainers, as I speak from experience.
I actually just got prescribed metformin to help with some weight loss
It’s hard to get Ozempic here now if you are NOT diabetic
I need to lose about 40 pounds. Will have to start exercising and having better diet
I found a provider and got my new meds.
Latuda kept me up for 5 nights straight when I tried it a few years ago. I wish I could take it.
I tried Ozempic. I didn’t lose any weight after 6 weeks, so I stopped. Weird.
I have never tried Haldol or Caplyta but I’d sure love to lose weight! I am female and 5’5" tall. I weighed 115 to 120 my entire life until 9 years ago, at 46 when I had my nervous breakdown. I gained 15 pounds in 3 weeks when they first medicated me. I am now at 188. I stayed around 140 to 145 for 6 years (on Risperdal) until they put me on Lithium and Zyprexa a year ago. I gained 30 pounds in 2 months. It’s hard because I was skinny for 46 years. Oh well. I will ask my pdoc about the Haldol and Caplyta
@John_Raven
Congrats on the 100-pound weight loss!!! I envy you!
haldol pretty much didnt make me gain weight. and the only side effect i had was restlessness. but i took benztropine for that.
Thx for the input. I am so unlucky with side effects. The biggest ones being insomnia and RLS. sucks so bad. I am on my 6th or 7th med(s) now
haldol will probably make u restless then if u get restless less. but 3mg a day of benztropine cured it for me.
Try more powerful medications. Like Wegovy and Zepbound.
OK. I will check it out…
