Going to be switching to abilify on monday

What are your experiences with it?

Been great for me

If everyone benefitted from abilify like I do, the unusual beliefs section would be empty

Good luck with abilify

I can only compare Abilify with Risperdal, but I’ve found that the advantages of Abilify are as follows:

  1. Little weight gain
  2. Helps with depression symptoms far better than Risperdal
  3. No problems with akathisia

The disadvantages that I’ve experienced:

  1. It has been less effective at treating psychotic symptoms, at least in my case
  2. Insurance doesn’t always approve it, apparently (but this is probably something you’ve gone over with your doctor)

Many hopes for you in your switch. I hope that it works better for your psychosis than it has for me.

I’ve tried Respiridone and Latuda. Abilify has been the right fit for me.

Good luck! :sunny:

Abilify did nothing for my positive symptoms, but it did put me in an overall better mood. And I gained like 30lbs while on it, even though most people say it’s weight neutral.

Was nasty for me. Akesthesia was the worst. Got a bunch of other bad side effects too. I ended up dropping it on my own because of how bad it got.

I personally had a bad experience with Abilify, but it is a very popular antipsychotic around here.

Lots of people like it and are doing well on it.

Best of luck with it @lostinthespace!

I’m on abilify, and it’s really the only thing that worked for me, so I’m lucky it exists.

It’ll probably raise your blood sugar, so get regular blood tests. That’s important with any AP anyway.

The only side effects I get are:

  1. Raised blood sugar (have to take metformin)
  2. Anxiety
  3. Restlessness

Take abilify in the morning, not at night. Taking it at night was horrible for me.

I was on benzos for anxiety and restlessness, but now I’m just taking l-theanine and it makes it bearable.

I switched from risperidone to abilify ,not a wise decision for me ,it caused akathesia and restlessness plus it was not effective as risperidone. My pshychiatrist advised me that risperiodone is the most effective and safest. I take pacitane along with risperidone to combat EPS symptoms. Different medicines work differently for people. Good luck with abilify

Good luck with the abilify! It’s today right?

I’m actually going to wait until friday when i can talk to my psychiatrist and weaning myself off of zyprexa while transitioning to abilify.

I have Abilify. It works to 80%. I still hear voices but I can see through the delusions and paranoia when they come. My effective dose is 25 mg. I have 10 in the morning and 15 in the evening. It’s split because I sometimes…well more than sometimes…forget to take my pills and then I won’t miss a whole dose.

Abilify makes me calm. No anger problems or extreme anxiety. I have no restlessness. I also have Quetiapine 300 mg for sleep and mood. I usually have no sleeping problems thanks to Quetiapin.
