Switching from risperidon to abilify

Hellos over there,

Today I told my pdoc about my struggle with thinking straight and talking to people on risperidon (okedi). He told me that I can try abilify from now on. So surprisingly I start to take abilify by tomorrow. He told me that abilify is not a „mental break“ like most antipsychotics and I will be more kind of active.

Any pros and cons on abilify? What about weight?

I tried Abilify. I was put on it in hospital years ago and I felt good on it but the nurses said it wasn’t working for me. Then I tried it in combination with clozapine three years ago in hospital and it didn’t do much. It’s a good one weight wise

the first new med after risperdal for me was abilify…loved it no sexual side effects and I could get a girl friend…problem was I was only about 65 percent stable but couldn’t see that I was semi delusional…now I am on generic prolixin, fluphenazine, 10 mg , twice a day…no sexual side effects and I lost all my extra weight on this med…love it…hope abilify helps you.

Abilify is more benign in terms of side effects but less potent in terms of efficacy due to how the medicine works

I’m on risperidone and a very low dose of Abilify for depression

They are a good combo

I have been on abilify for over 6 weeks and it is working for me.

It states that there will be continuous improvement for up to 3 months on it.

I’d say different drugs affect people differently. With that said, abilify was a great med for me, other than the weight gain… I recommend the abilify injections though. They’re a lot easier, work just as good, and seem to be a little better for weight… completely up to you of course on whether or not you decide for pills or injections

I was on risperdone as well for a short period, but I was allergic to it and had to come off. I hated that med… the appetite on it was ridiculous
