Hey all! As some of you probably know by now I’m very cautious over what medications I take. The new pdoc I met with today suggested that I be started on 300 mg daily of Gabapentin, to help manage my anxiety. (I have an anxiety disorder, which in turn causes my psychosis to flare up-less anxiety=less psychosis).
I’ve been doing research and it seems to be a decent drug that so far has not shown any damaging long term effects. She also did a good job explaining to me why it would be my best choice to begin with. If anyone here has had experience with it I’d love your opinion! What side effects did you experience, how helpful was it and all that jazz.
I haven’t had any side effects from it. I take it for anxiety in everyday doing things, though I don’t have an anxiety disorder. I’m told that a side effect Gabapentin is a feeling of well-being which I get. Without I have a feeling of ill-being/chaos.
Yeah had really good results from gabapentin. Particularly good for social anxiety. Did make me put some weight on though but nowhere near as bad as APs.
If you suffer from schizoaffective or are prone to having bipolar type episodes, I would be cautious with Gabapentin - Neurontin.
It has the propensity to cause Mania in certain people.
Not everyone gets manic from taking it, but their is that possibility
I do not have any personal experience with gabapentin but our vet prescribed it for our cat as a treatment for nerve pain, apparently it has side effects of depression and it is also highly addictive. Our cat seemed listless while she was on it like she might have been depressed so we took her off of it.
