Frustrated with meds

I don’t know if any other antipsychotic will work for me besides amisulpride, or as well as it. My previous pdoc wanted to take me off due to high prolactin and I’m on subminimum dose (150mg) now, whereas 400mg was my well dose.

I’ve tried quetiapine and it helped a bit but side effects too intolerable. I’m trying haloperidol and it also seems to help but don’t know if higher dose will make more side effects come. My pdoc mentioned olanzapine and I have tried that and it works too but without amisulpride it didn’t seem to work enough

It seems all these AP’S work but side effects make it seem less suitable. Amisulpride seems to be the best even if I have to suffer osteoporosis later in life and high prolactin now.

It’s a real gamble - what’s the right med? Which side effects must I choose? Which price to pay? How expensive is each? Go with cheapest one (haloperidol)? Or most expensive (amisulpride)?

■■■■ I’m so frustrated with this!

have you tried any more 2nd generations antipsychotics like latuda or reagila?

Thanks @mrsearlgray Those meds you mention aren’t provided by the hospital I go to, and they’re probably more expensive than my amisulpride. (I’m in South Africa)

Been there, unfortunately when it comes to meds it really is a gamble, it’s all guess and check, trial and error.

I was on Olanzapine for 15 years (40mg) but the side effects were life threatening. Then I tired Abilify and that didn’t work at all, I became psychotic. Then they put me on Haldol but that had awful side effects. I am now on Lurasidone 60mg and that has worked our beautifully, works 100% with respect to my psychosis and no side effects.

I was discouraged like you for a long time, and it’s taken me over a decade and a half but I have finally found a medication that works great. There are a lot to choose from so don’t give up just yet…

I really wish I didn’t have to take meds also. Sorry you haven’t found one you like. It sounds like there are more that you can try yet though. I also had side effects from Seroquel. I am pretty happy on latuda right now but I think I can improve some more and I’m going to try some other meds. I am going to try clozapine next and then maybe asenapine. I didn’t like olanzapine that one is the worst for weight gain I think and it also can cause sedation.

Yep on both fronts. I ballooned up to 240lbs and slept 12 hours a day, the rest of the day I had no energy. The metabolic side effects were slowly killing me, I was in bad shape. I am glad to be off that stuff.
