I’m the only one in my family to have it, including distant family that I know of, second cousins, great uncles, etc…
No one in my family has schizophrenia. Apparently, I just got the right combination of genes from people without sz to get it so it is impossible for me to know who contributed what.
My grandmother on my dad’s side had some sort of undiagnosed psychotic disorder. She suffered a lot and I really wish she’d gotten help.
My dad had it. His brother had it. My aunt has it. My dads brother shot himself in the head because of the voices; he did it in his car. My dad died when I was 17 he was 47; he was also epileptic and had a seizure where he choked on his tongue. I could never understand my dads behavior as a kid, but now that I’m older I understand a lot more. Hope everyone has a good day. Good things.
See we always thought it was my biological dad. My brothers have a different dad, my stepdad. Since I was the only one in the family with mental health issues we figured it was bio dad’s genes. However recently one brother (not related to my dad in any way) started showing strong schizophrenic symptoms. So now we’re flustered. If it’s on my mom or stepdad’s side, it hasn’t shown itself in at least two generations up til now.
No direct genetic link, but my uncle on my mums side had it.
Apparently my mum’s bro ‘might’ have had psychosis /sz
And Mt dad’s bro used to shout to himself but when my dad talks to him about he denies having it
My mum has severe depression
Luckily No one in my family has psychosis/schizophrenia. I guess I’m the first and I Hope I’ll be the last one as well.
Edit. I remember that my mother told me of a distant cousin of her, Who might have had schizophrenia. But unfortunately he committed suicide long before I was born.
I don’t know anyone in my family with schizophrenia. In a way its good because I have no one to compare myself to or to blame.
My mom has schizoaffective bipolar type. She probably got it from her dad, who has a lot of delusional thinking but no diagnosis. I got schizoaffective bipolar type from my mom. My sister and youngest brother have it, too.
1 cousin schizophrenic. 1 cousin schizoaffective both on each side
Tons of other mental health disorders in my family too other than sz.
I think it’s not just SZ genes that can cause it. Studies correlate personality disordered parents to increased risk of SZ offspring. My family is riddled with PD’s but none of them are diagnosed. If you trust my diagnosis skills then I can trace my illness back three generations on both sides of the family tree.
My mother had schizophrenia. I don’t really believe that much in the genetic aspect. She had the same type of people harassing her and there were similar incidents in our lives. She wasn’t as shy as I was, but couldn’t tolerate a lot. Her mother was Irish. They say Irish have genetic mutations from famine for schizophrenia, so I could be wrong.
Depression occurs on both sides of my family. I don’t know about my JWs loser biological grandpa on my mom’s side though.
Both gramdmas had depression really bad.
I think I was susceptible to the illness bc of not only genes but multiple life events before I was dxed at 23 years of age.
My dad, my dad’s dad, and my grandma’s on my dad’s side brother… It may go deeper but my grandparents kept a lot of secrets about the family medical history
In my blood line (family tree) there is a saint and alcoholics and few people absconding may be due to mental illness.
But both mother and father side people do have some issues mentally.
