‘French psychiatry has gone downhill in part because of American influence’

That’s sad. But I do believe they are also to blame, not just the Americans. They didn’t have to follow the standard of diagnosis and care in the US.

Yeah, blame everything on the Americans.
The truth is psychiatric care and special programs have been declining globally.

To be fair they’re not blaming it on the Americans. They’re blaming it, in part, on American influence. And they’re also saying that the influence has been good too.

Like I said before, they are basically blaming it on Americans (American influence) Not much distinction.

No offence but American healthcare is seen as a joke by the rest of the western world. Even the European nations that aren’t entirely free, it is partially still subsided. I feel like that is the culture they are taking issue with. That people shouldn’t have to pay thousands of pounds just to have basic needs met.

I agree. And if i could move to another more civilized place, I would. People always say “if you don’t like it, leave” but most can’t.

We still have the best doctors and medical technology in the world.
Wouldn’t want to wait months sometimes years for essential medical treatments or surgery in another country where socialized medicine is practiced.

I think it varies from country in Europe.
Richer and poorer countries.
Germany took our best doctors, because here they are underpayed.

That’s the kicker though, we still have long wait times in the states and that’s even if you’re covered. This last week has been medical purgatory for me spending hours on the phone trying to find someone who accepts my insurance for a treatment I need. I finally found a provider, but I still have to wait months. There’s many people in the same boat. I would rather wait and be covered than not be covered and unable to get the treatment.

Believe me, the wait times and quality of doctors are much worse outside of the States.

There are wait times for certain specialists here in the States but we are talking a couple of months at most.

In Canada the wait times can be several months just to be seen by any doctor.

Many wealthy people in Socialized countries pay privately for their medical care, so they can get better quality care.

Sometimes I don’t feel like wasting my breath on a topic that I don’t believe that it will result in changing any minds. And this is one of those times. I’m rooting for you though @Wave !

Yeah thanks @Bowens
I think I’ll end it here :grimacing:

I’m from Europe (Denmark) and one thing I noticed here on the forum is a tendency to view people suffering from MI as having a biological malfunction that can be treated if you just find the right drug (or supplement), but very often drugs and supplements are insufficient.

On the other hand psychiatrists in Europe are very conservative when it comes to medicating the patients, they don’t experiment with drugs and treat you strictly according to the guidelines from the government.

I know that opiates (methadone og subutex) would be a lifesaver for me, but it’s impossible for me to get it because the government guidelines don’t allow it to treat depression. (it would be easier for me to get it in the states, i think)

I doubt that. It’s now very hard to get opiates in the US. Drs are afraid to prescribe them, even when people have severe pain.

I know a Physican’s Assistant who was treating an elderly woman who crushed her hip and was so miserable she was moaning and crying 24/7. The dr over her would only allow Tylenol and ibuprofen

Oh, i forgot about the “opiate crisis” you are having. Of course. It would probably be impossible to get opiates. We haven’t got a similar crisis in Europe yet.

I’ll gladly wait 6 months for non urgent examinations/operations if it means I pay nothing to access treatment.

Have you ever watched Breaking Bad? That show literallly doesn’t work in somewhere like Canada or the UK etc. He would just get treatment free of charge and have no need for a life of crime.

Its even possible to get things like physical therapy for free if you have injuries.

Don’t ppl in the US have medical insurance? I am sure no one here pays meds full price 1400$/month.

Medicare, Medicaid, etc
