‘French psychiatry has gone downhill in part because of American influence’

I also saw in the US you can get coupons for meds from the manufacturer website.

Yeah my medicare pays for most of the costs of almost everything. Medicaid is even better. When I was on it I didn’t have to pay for squat.

As far as meds go, I only usually have to pay a few dollars a month for all my meds with my insurance that that is paid for through medicare part D. And I don’t have to pay any premiums for it because I qualify for the “Extra Help” program.

I have private insurance, subsidized by the government through the ACA. It’s pricey, even with the tax credit, but my insurance is really good.

Like I think someone said above, in countries with socialized medicine a lot of people pay for private supplementary insurance. Even my parents do that with their medicare.

Yeah that’s nice and all, but then again actually having coverage would be nice too. A lot of people in the states don’t have to wait for procedures because they can’t get them covered at all.

I’m not trying to be offensive, but there’s no reason we can’t be critical of our current form of Healthcare. The people who suffer from a lack of coverage need us to be vocal about it.

For the record I’m not saying that a social Healthcare program would be better, but I am very much stating that our current form of Healthcare leaves many people dying and suffering.

I had a close friend who got lucky enough to find a doctor to treat his skin cancer for free, if not he’d be dead due to already maxed out medical bills and not having access to decent insurance. Thats just my anecdotal experience, but there are many stories like that.

But imagine everyone having that literally from the moment they are born with no questions asked.

You go ahead and keep yours. I’ll stick with what we have, thanks anyway.

You do realise you are literally saying “I like that not everyone has access to free healthcare”.

I mean suit yourself, but seems silly to me.

I’m well aware that I am rejecting your idea of socialized healthcare. Believe it or not there are people with differing opinions than yours.

Hello,

It’s true that France had top intellectuals of psychiatry who have revolutionized practices here in our country.
But French psychiatric hospitals lost many number of places in the last decades.
Like says the article, psychiatry is in great danger here.
I hope these reforms will bring the best.
That said, Macron is a pure liberal and I doubt he will bring lot of money in the care system.

Personaly here : I have a psychotherapist psychiatrist that cost me 1 or 2 euros for each session.
I have free meds. (including recent meds.)
BUT : I live in Paris suburbs and there are a big lack of psychiatrists (like the article says.)
So I chose one who is not totally reimbursed by social security. (i’m talking about my “meds psychiatrist”.)

Concerning the care system in France :
Doctors are good enough to care us.
In Paris my mom had been treated very well by a top team with top meds, she paid nothing. (that said, it was a well known cancer care center.)

Here there is a specificity that can be a problem : the numerus closus.
That is to say that we select the best students to be a doctor but we do not select enough. (in term of number of students.)

I would also like to say that in terms of cost, socialized medical systems are globaly cheaper for a country. That said, everyone has his/her own way of doing things, I’m not saying that the French system is at the top. Far from there.

I just don’t understand who benefits from your system other than corporations.
