Forum: Can therapy be part of treatment for schizophrenia?

My scepticism comes from doctors rejecting therapy as an option for my schizophrenic brother despite numerous requests. His doctors remain adamant that antipsychotic medication is enough

It’s been extremely helpful to me but I also have had severe abuse and neglect in my life. I still think that cbt and DBT are hugely beneficial to people suffering from schizophrenia (or any psychosis related syndrome).

Yes, that is unusual, he got schizophrenia and he is alone with his mental crap. Good luck to him. Maybe he is hasn’t got therapy ability

It’s an additional expense and a lot more work than taking two minutes to just prescribe a med. There’s also a lack of buy-in with psychiatrists, they’re fixated on the pharmacalogical model of treatment.

Whenever I speak with current pdoc basically everything I say he can Medicate me for

It’s very irritating just listening to advice from a drill manual

I have lately been through a lot of hardships, crisis, short hospitalizations, and now the psychiatric nurse who i regularly talk to has provided that i shall attend something called “dialectical behavioral therapy” to help me with my suicidal thoughts.
I hope it works, I really need a lift.
