CONCLUSIONS: Both CBT and ST combined with medication had benefits on psychopathology, insight and social functioning of patients with schizophrenia. CBT was significantly more effective than ST on overall, positive symptoms and social functioning of patients with schizophrenia in the long term.
Lol my shrink uses psychoeducation. He wants me to become a psychologist. So did the evaluator and so does my psychiatrist.
They also don’t want me on here.
I’m reading a book on psychotherapy for the lab I will be working in, and it says that cbt is the go to and most efficacious therapy style for schizophrenia.
DBT was developed for borderline personality disorder - it isn’t used for schizophrenia (I could find no research on pubmed.org related to its use in schizophrenia). But it may be helpful in some related issues. -See below:
My doctor has repeatedly asked me not to join sz forums and not to read sz books, it’s strange because beside my career these are the most things that bring me motivation and hope.
I just like to learn about everyone’s experiences. I’m obsessed with schizophrenia. I also like helping people out. Some people really need advice or at least to know that they aren’t alone in whatever is bothering them.
This is why I see it very important for us to speak out our minds and find unconditional support by people who had our struggle, for it helps us understand we are not alone in this battle and gives us the opportunity to acknowledge it is a battle, most people don’t recognize it is a battle and just settle for disappointment for the rest of their lives, when all they needed to do is tell their subconscious mind it is a battle and there are rules to follow if you intend to win… It is life challenging but we can face it. I think people like you should rank very high in the field and be known and recognized globally so that others can benefit from it, I am not too ambitious, all I need is to maintain my position with my company for another twenty years and then live peacefully with a wife and two children then write a book… And yes, I will ask for help when I need it and I will take my medicine for as long as it requires… I love to hear about success stories and I always try to have contact with them, and is look up to anyone who wakes up in the morning to put an effort into his day and be part of the society, say it in a very minimal dose but say he did something that day, I have struggled much with negative symptoms and guess it became a matter of a battle, it is something that requires will and determination more than medication, we can fight and we can become very successful just like other people… Who said every one is successful and who said there aren’t millions of poor people out there who wish to live our lives and have shelters and food. If we recognize our grace and see the bounties at our reach we will wake up, we will use cold water to wash up, we will take care after our self, we will buy nice cloths and put on expensive perfume, we will buy luxurious cars and we will engage in conversations with people. Because we can, because we are human and because we are good. I will always be here on this forum and will always order new books on sz, say it educational or bio’s. We will survive.
Another recent article examining the use of CBT in people with schizophrenia ('Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for major psychiatric disorder: does it really work? Lynch, Laws & McKenna 2010) published in Psychological Medicine is amongst the most accessed articles in 50 years of the journal.
