For those of you who have PG&E, or maybe other energy companies too

Does anyone go on their utilities companies website and monitor your energy use? My utilities company in California is Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E). I can go on their website and see all my energy use trends; I can see daily how much electricity I used, and how much gas I used daily. I can see how much money I spent on electricity and gas each day for each monthly billing cycle. I can see how my energy use compares to all the similar apartments within a couple of miles of mine.I can see my entire energy use for a year broken down into daily increments so I can compare how much I was using at this time last year.

Something weird happened tonight. I haven’t used the gas wall heater since the 9th of February. My roommates gone for a couple of weeks and I’m hanging out in the living room and it’s pretty cold but I’ve been using an electric throw to keep warm instead of the wall heater. The website updates each day and I was looking on the bar graph chart of energy use and I see that they put that I used the heater Monday and I got charged $2.09 for that day. I am a 100% positive that I did not use the heater at all that entire day but PG&E’s record shows that I used it. I just wonder what’s going on. I’ve never had this problem before, I will check tomorrow to see if I have anymore bogus charges for something I didn’t use. If anyone else monitors their energy use, has this happened to you? What did you do?

Is the wall heater your only gas appliance? Was it completely turned off or just set to a lower set point temperature than on other days? How is your hot water heated? Is that also by gas?

Assuming that you used no gas consuming appliances at all on Monday, it is odd that you see a gas charge.

In any case, I would just call PG&E tomorrow and explain the situation and see what they have to say.

I have PG&E in California as well, but I have several appliances that use gas (furnace, water heater, stove). This time of year, I am always somewhat horrified when I get my PG&E bill.
