For those of u who have lost 60 lbs or above, how did you make it

I want to know what is effective. Someone said i should cut down my calorie intake drastically (by half) and starve myself. According to her it is only possible to lose weight by starving. My daily calorie intake is low already. It’s about 1000 per day. But i didn’t lose weight. I wonder if it’s any good living on a 400 calories daily intake.

Hey I never did the math, I’ve lost 60lbs in the last 2.5years. I lost the 1st 40 by stopping taking clozapine cold turkey. The weight just melted right off, I wasn’t laying around all day, I had motivation to exercise, eat/cook healthy. But I ended up in the hospital 5-6 months later. I’ve been up and down with the last 20. I was 70 lbs down but recently gained 10 back. I lost quite a bit of the last 20 lbs of weight due to depression and barely eating. But now I’m keeping it off with calorie counting and some exercise.

400 calories a day is scary unhealthy. 1200 is a more reasonable minimal # for women. And try to get more active. At 1000 its amazing if you have any energy and are not cranky.

They debunked the calorie thing, they said depending on the person, your body only can lose so much in a day and stops. For me I stopped buying any junk food and stopped keeping snacks in the house. It is hard but just buy stuff that takes an effort to make, and when you do make it, make less your stomach will shrink and you will feel full faster. Eat slower to cause it takes time to tell the brain your full…

I’m at 155 now from 210

I lost 80 lbs at one point. I didn’t do it very healthily, I ate around 300-500 calories a day. I prolly didn’t eat anything at all 1 week. I was losing 15lbs a month. I also walked for 1 1/2 hour 5x a week. And I smoked 30 cigarettes per day, still do. It’s hard as heck to keep the weight off too.

Oh @goggles 400 calories a day is very low and could put your body into starvation mod where it instinctively tries to hold on to any excess weight to save itself from starving to death. Be very careful.

A lot of people recommend calorie counting apps like myfitnesspal to track how much you are eating. It also gives you a daily target for calories to consume.

You should combine a calorie controlled diet with moderate exercise and set small goals.

I’ve just started a diet, my first mini goal is to lose 4kg by 10 September this year. Ultimately I want to get down close to my premed weight of 57kg. I’m starting from 65.2kg.

There is an exercise and diet support thread on this forum too. Exercise & Diet Support Thread! 💪 🏃 🏊

You can do it, just take it slowly. Maybe look into meal replacement shakes like optifast. I don’t know what country you are in. I use meal replacement shakes in my diet. Three per day and a healthy dinner. It’s the only way I can lose weight because I’m not good at controlling my food.

Good luck with it.

Try intermediate fasting it’s the fastest way to lose weight imo.

I eat about 500 - 600 a day, (more if I work out), and I feel fine.
Not saying this amount of calories is okay for everyone, but I think some people may just require less.

That’s fine for you, you might be slight framed and not need a lot of food. But I was talking to someone who is used to eating a lot more than 500 calories per day.

Every body is different I guess.

Yes, very true. Everyone is different.

starving yourself only wrecks your metabolism. I am very poor so just eating a can of beans and eggs and toast for breakfast and rice for dinner has brought off the pounds…I currently weigh 220 down from 280. good luck…exercise always helps.

The problem with having that low of a calorie intake is that your body will lower your metabolism to defend its set weight. It would probably be healthier to get around 1300 - 1500 calories a day and exercise. When I’ve lost substantial amounts of weight in the past it was usually because I was distracted from even thinking about food and my weight, and I was active. I was burning more calories. I’ve realized that when I sit around thinking about how I don’t want to eat, I obsess more on food. Maybe if you found some type of exercise you could do it would help you lose weight.

I lost 75 lbs by eating vegetarian and giving up all sugared treats and drinks. NO EXERCISE for me. Too depressed and at home too much. I also stopped Olanzapine and got on Latuda. It works really well for me.

You need to do hit cardio in the gym jump on the bike and do 30seconds hard 1min easy for 20mins 4times a week and you should lose 4pounds a week or take drugs

I’ve lost over 65 pounds without exercise. Calorie restriction doesn’t work long term. I lost my weight within a year on the Paleo diet, but I wouldn’t recommend it today since it’s quite unhealthy imo, plus is presupposes that people in the paleolithic times ate very low carb which isn’t true at all. The bottom line about it is that it’s possible to lose a bunch of weight on it if you’re really determined but for me it was quite hard.

Right now I’m on a vegan diet and would say it’s easier(the transition was hard though) and healthier, plus I’ve lost even more weight. I don’t get the sugar phobia what so ever, I have lots of sugar and fruit a day, sugar doesn’t make you fat, overeating does. The most popular male vegan youtuber says he consumes 600 grams of sugar a day and he routinely gets accused of being a heroin addict cuz he’s too skinny. It is recommended that if you do eat lots of sugar that you exercise, your body can deal with the simple sugars better if you do that. It’s hard to overeat on a vegan diet cuz the food is less calorie dense, I have to force myself to eat more in order to get enough calories. Avoid too much animal protein and fats and you’ll lose weight without restricting.

Obesity has genetic and behavioral factors that many ignore. Im trying topamax that many said they lost weight but so far with me ive only had weight gain. Then again i havent increased my dose yet to 50mg

Do not starve yourself! Our bodies have great survival techniques and start to eat muscle and vital tissue when they’re starved. Then, when they get calories again, our bodies store those calories as fat rather than processing them other ways just in case. I need to lose weight again now, so I need to put this into practice myself again, but years ago I had put on 70 lbs. When I decided to lose that weight, the idea was simple: eat less and move more. It works if you keep it in mind and really put it into practice. Eat less than you do now, and move more than you do now. Best of luck! You can do it!

I assume that you know that this girl is wrong. At least I hope you know… Starving yourself is actually the worst way to lose weight. But every diet out there will help a few people no matter how outrageous it is. But the best diets are the ones that help the majority of people.

I lost weight on low carb diets. I lost 60 lbs on Atkins. But anyways, when you starve yourself to lose weight you will walk around feeling hungry most of the time and it’s uncomfortable and impracticable. Plus, when you lose weight by starving the odds that you will gain it all right back are very great. Actually the problem with most diets is that once you lose the weight, is is extremely hard to keep the weight off. !000 per day is pretty low, and it may not be healthy. Eating only 400 calories a day is pretty extreme.

It’s a good rule of thumb to tell your GP when you embark on any new diet. Its just better to play it safe to make sure your new diet is safe to go on with the medication we are on.

I am not going to obsess about losing a lot of weight.
I was just placed on a big weight gaining med, and honestly I’d rather be a bit over weight than be on a med that is weight neutral but won’t work as well and makes me “crazy”.

I will not diet, diets usually don’t work in the long run.
I will continue to avoid sugary foods and sweets, and no sodas.

I will continue to walk for at least 30minutes and I will eat basically what I want but in moderation.

As long as I don’t allow myself to get obese like I did in the past, I should be fine.

Skipping meals and starving yourself is not good for our mental health.
