@Headspark Thanks so much- I only know about A1C from here, and its 6.0 right now. Now I can track myself - cause my doctor just told me to cut sugar cause I can become prediabetic. I’m already day 2 without sugar. And will have to figure out a new diet.
Yeah I heard about Splenda see them in yellow packets. I also heard of Stevia so - I really don’t like the idea but maybe give them a chance. Yeah sugar free candy just doesn’t do saftisfy a sweet tooth.
An A1C of 6.0 is prediabetic, at least according to Diabetes Canada. Normal is less than 5.5
Here are the blood sugar level definitions in Canada, this is a screenshot straight from my blood test results. My lab gives me my result (6.1), but it also gives me the healthy ranges for each test result so I know if my results for all the tests they do are within healthy ranges.
I would assume these definitions of diabetes are similar all over the world…
In the US they do A1C which uses the units mmol/L but home based blood sugar tests are done with units mg/dL
mmol/L and mg/dL can be converted from one to the other.
For example an A1C of 6 mmol/L is equal too a blood sugar level of 108 mg/dL
I don’t know why they make it that complicated in the US. In Canada we use mmol/L for both A1C and home blood sugar testing. No conversions necessary so it’s easier to understand.
When I was on Zyprexa my A1C was 6.x, after switching to Latuda and Risperidone it went down. It was 5.7 in my last blood test so I am close to be prediabetic. My Dr told me to eat less carbs, to avoid sugary stuff, bread, pasta, chocolate, etc but its hard. Recently I switched all my sugary drinks to 0 calories water enhancer drinks sweetened with Splenda. I use Mio and Crystal Light. I like watermelon strawberry Mio and Crystal Light pineapple coconut/piña colada.
It really is- my doc told me last test about 3 mos ago to cut down on sugars mostly - but I didn’t. I think he’s gonna have a much longer talk about it this time.
