Maybe you can use Splenda or Stevia instead.

No I am a true sugar lover. That stuff tastes like chemicals to me- like i hate Diet Coke.
Thanks @Aziz . Maybe I can learn to like it.

@Kxev they’ve changed how artificial sweeteners taste through the years and it tastes better than it use to! I would suggest the great value no calorie sweetener from Walmart… Just be careful since if you use to much it can go from sweet to bitter in my opinion somehow… Best of luck to ya!

Good luck with getting your weight and sugar consumption under control. The thought of getting diabetes scares me too.

I reversed my diabetes by losing a significant amount of weight

Thanks @Twialine @Sarah . I might have to try fake sugar. Cause i love sweets. But I can’t deal with an additional health issue - I have other life threatening conditions already. so I am gonna cut the sugar.

@LilyoftheValley yeah I just got my results on my phone app. And 1/2% away from prediabetic and way out of range of normal. I think the sugar is actually causing my weight issue too.

Do meds cause diabetes?

There’s evidence that APs contribute to getting diabetes, along with other factors

Zyprexa shot up my A1C. They took me off it asap as it was making me diabetic.

Oh gosh - i don’t want to change up APs. Im gonna deal with the sugar first. I want to get retested before the doc sees me. Maybe its just sugar that’s doing it. Cause I really eat desserts for dinner.

I’m also a sugar lover. I’ve tried all kinds of sugar. Maybe honey is healthier?

@LevelJ1 Thanks -
Yeah I consider naturally sweet alternatives.
And less of it. I have coffee with my sugar and milk. This will be the hardest one to give up.
I think if i can get fruits and eat to satisfy my sweet cravings.

Look into low glycemic load food. Fiber stabilizes sugar absorption so food with high fiber are good.

Food with high soluble fiber eventhough have sugar don’t increase blood sugar as much as sugar with no fiber.

Oh yeah - that A1C you mentioned is what is out of normal range.
I really am gonna change my diet. So far no sugar and sweets. I’m gonna try to have more fruits. Oh wow - low glycemic excludes potatoes and pasta and bread.

I can do this - for a year i only ate carrots - cause Seroquel packed on so much weight. I ate only mini bags of carrots. And Cuties oranges.

I LOVE  sugar sooooooo much that I would make a very miserable, suffering diabetic. I know this. That’s why I got to keep my weight down.

Yes….they can mess with your metabolism and cause diabetes, they did for me.

Which AP are you on?

I came down with diabetes while I was on Zyprexa. My doctor at the time switched me to Risperidone. He said taking Zyprexa is like eating chocolate cake. It’s not good for diabetes.

Diet coke uses aspartame, and I agree, I hate diet coke too.

I use Splenda Sweetener, I actually prefer it over sugar in my coffee and tea. In my opinion Splenda is the best tasting sweetener, the rest are pretty bad. But in food sugar tastes better. Diabetic candy, chocolate, ice cream is awful IMO.

I was a really bad diabetic for a long time. A1Cs of 8-9 for years. I am now pre-diabetic after switching APs and losing weight. My last A1C was 6.1 and has remained in the low-to-mid 6s for almost 2 years now.

As long as your A1C is under 7 you’ll be okay. Although I understand you not wanting to be diabetic or pre-diabetic in the first place.
