Already feeling anxious .He’s so proper and formal ,mixes with quite posh people , and I just feel like I’ve never matched up to expectations . It doesn’t help that I’ve seen him about once a year for the last 33 years. Barring a 2 week holiday in 1995. Truth is I feel more at ease with my stepdaughter and granddaughters. Social anxiety is kicking off big time-mega fear of showing myself up . I guess that’s what happens when you’re a never having worked mentally ill person and your father was quite a high ranking diplomat (equivalent of a senior brigadier) who has a ’ Who’s who’ entry.

My father married early and married very well, but has just one child, and a child with severe severe problems
at that. Fertility problems.

Your Dad sounds like someone I’d be really afraid of. Hope it goes well.
It’s less feeling afraid than feeling inferior. He’s an ok dad , but just never one who’s found it easy to be supportive. He’s very much someone who does better talking about happy/upbeat stuff.
