I must admit I can tell the difference at work between a no exercise day and an exercise day

This pees me off, not because exercise isn’t good for you- it is. It pees me off because of the failure to deal with the psychological reasons why people like me are reluctant to exercise/get involved with sporting activity. Sport at school was another means of bullying me. Physical education something I regularly got criticised for because I was badly coordinated and clumsy.
Then there are the videos full of already fit people doing exercise with an adeptness and speed of action that a person like me can’t cope with. There is virtually no attempt to tackle those issues by those promoting the benefits of exercise/sporting activity.

Not forgetting that some exercises can involve a greater complexity of physical action and movement than a person like me can cope with.

I found some of us in school gravitated to individual sports to avoid the group mentalities. I took up skateboarding and snowboarding. But even those sports had the clique bullies to steer clear of

I ran a marathon just 2 months before the illness started. I was doing running, swimming and tennis at the time. Top physical shape.

Exercise might be good, it just won’t spare you getting mentally ill, if that’s what’s written in the stars for you…

Absolutely, I got cognitive symptoms despite exercising close to two hours a day. For this illness, it is only helpful in raising the mood a bit, but as regards to hard symptoms, I find no relief from exercise.

I’ve been faithfully practicing yoga for the past 19 years. It has singlehandedly kept me out of a wheelchair and out of a nursing home because that’s where I was fast headed.

I definitely am feeling like this is accurate at the moment. Even just a few days of jogging once or twice a day with some push ups mixed in and i feel way better than beforehand. Mood, energy, cognitive clarity all improved. Something im a bit stumped about though is that i havent actually lost much weight at all on the scales yet, but i can definitely tell that i look a bit slimmer and my stomach isnt sticking out like it was just a few days ago. Maybe ive gained muscle or something?

@firemonkey best to just do what we are capable of ay. Dont worry about what the peers are doing and forget about the ol gym class back at school.

I reckon you will lean out even more as you get stronger and even bigger.

For me I have no chance unless I grind cardio maybe 3x a week. Plus need my test levels checked again…probably low (sigh).

Maybe you could get a 20kg rucking vest, and walk 5k steps once a week with that on? Burn through so many calories too.

I need to go rucking soon.

thanks dude im seriously considering cutting out carbs. i bought a bunch of tuna and canned chicken yesterday. gonna try to stick to that

Too much exercise and bad nutrition got me this mess, so I’m not inclined to say it’s a remedy for mental illness, as clearly, running 100 flight of stairs a day and football practice didn’t prevent but caused schizophrenia in me along with an anorexic diet.

However, physical exercise is still important to everyone and while there may be a multitude of limitations, everyone should at least try as much as they can to exercise even if its only a few times in a week.

The last time I walked outside unaccompanied was in October 2021. Just before the falls I had. If I walk outside now I’m accompanied and it’s short distances using a stroller with a seat.10 minutes or so of being upright, standing still or moving about, will result in hours of pain. Getting the balance right between being too sedentary or too mobile, very difficult.
