Electroconvulsive therapy is officially a go for me, I start as soon as next week

I had to meet with a forensic psychiatrist and a lawyer on Monday and Tuesday, who informed me that I would be starting within two weeks if they could figure out all the legal steps and get the letters of approval from the three doctors. Well, they did today, and my mom called and left a message for the therapist to schedule pre-op and the actual session itself. So tomorrow I will get an actual date, and it is supposed to be as soon as possible.

Me too, my psychiatrist actually recommended it to me before ECT, but I declined because I was afraid of triggering psychosis with the hallucinogen.

That’s good news @Hulgil. I know you’ve been waiting a long time for this. I hope everything goes well. Good luck and keep us posted. :relaxed:

ah yes I guess thats a possibility. I did some ketamine in college, it made me sick as a dog but I would never have thought it could cause psychosis. Now too much coffee makes my mind race and thoughts not make sense.

I have only heard bad things, but I know it does work for some.
If this is what you want, then I am glad for you
Good luck!

I heard some bad things too… But I’ve heard some miraculous stories as well. Either way, I’m getting this because it is a last resort; no other treatment has worked for my depression. It is worth the risk for me.

I have pre-op on Tuesday, and I have my first treatment Wednesday.

I’d like to get ECT, if they would allow it, and if I could pay for it. Who knows, the procedure might give me total amnesia, and I might even forget my own name. That might not be bad.

very brave, good luck.

I’ve heard of some women in the news who used it for depression.

Good Luck! While I was in the hospital one time it seemed like everyone was getting it. They would go in before like zombies, all depressed and such. They would come back and within hours there would be a spark back in their eye. They’d be smiling again and able to laugh within days. It really was a miracle to see the transition.

I’d like to know findings of whether it has short term or long term effects in prevalence,

or is this something you need to keep doing on-going.
