Have u thought about finding a therapist to help you with all that you’ve been diagnosed with?

Yeah but he is a psychiatrist. They usually only help prescribe your meds and monitor you.

A therapist is for like “talk therapy”. Which sounds like you’re more interested in.

I would if I were you

my psychiatrist is the one who would refer me, but he is an ■■■■■■■

I’m not sure exactly where you’re located, but here you can just set up appointment with basically any therapist or psychologist without the referral of a psychiatrist. I know it is isn’t cheap, but it sounds like it would really help you.

Having pd isn’t the end of the world

Just chill, your still the same

The labels are for the doctors and health team benefit

Write all your good qualities down and go from there instead of focusing on the rest of it

Geez , if they asked those questions to anyone we’d all say yes to a few.

sorry, its just sort of messing with my head a bit, i’m trying to not let it bother me. I would like to see a therapist but idk how to do that as i’ve always used my P/doc as my main person.

Do you not have access to a psychiatrist anymore?
Therapist sounds good idea! You just need to write everything down daily, make it a habit and then work through whatever bothers you the most with a therapist. Collecting your symptoms and thoughts and mood changes etc will help you work through them

i do that already, sort of, but i know what you mean, we dont do much therapy like that here in the uk on the nhs

Here in the Uk a lot of nhs services vary on whereabouts you live
So do you not under a psychiatrist now?

@daydreamer are you staying on the same meds or has that changed?
Id be over the moon if i no longer had sz

That was and still is the personality dx I’d have no difficulty accepting. Instead in 2005 I was switched from schizoaffective mixed to personality disorder nos and then c 2008 to paranoid pd. The background to it? Peeing off the mental health team for seeking more help because I thought there was more going on than SMI. 2018 new area new pdoc sz/sz-a 2019 ASD/Asperger’s dx. Avoidant pd would’ve been the intelligent and sensible pd to give me back in 2005. While keeping the schizoaffective dx. The pdoc in 2005, who’s turned out to be a weirdo, made an emotionally charged but intellectually incompetent decision.

Thats good, something, that you’re on the right meds for your mental illness.
I was just reading through this topic again and you’ve had personality diagnosis since 2018, a long time.
You can relate to most of the clusters except anti social pd. You find you can relate to bpd etc.

Having a personality disorder is complex and trying to understand it all and how it affects you as a person is confusing especially since most people have more than two diagnosed. It can be confusing to wrap your head around.

Im sorry but i think youve researched it and its something you need to come to a conclusion about yourself.

What were you looking for advice about?

I know about them. I once did a secondment to a medium secure personality disorder unit, back in the nursing days. Not the same as mentally ill in my opinion.

What do you mean, not the same as mentally ill?
It is a severe mental illness

I mean its not the same thing. Its a mental disorder for sure. But its not an illness. Unhealthy coping strategies and thoughts and behaviours in the face of full liability are not the same as someone who loses control/liability of his behaviour and thoughts.

So non psychotic depression isn’t an illness.
