It’s really hard to find jobs. I worked as a cleaner in a hospital for 2 years yet companies are still rejecting me at every stage. I must give off something they don’t like…

When asked for help in 2022 they refused to give me a work coach and just expected me to be written off with no hope

They should be supporting people who want to try and anyone who can is a bonus

Not everyone should be forced into things at a prescribed speed

Department for work and pensions. They are a branch of government that deal with benefits here in the UK.

Oh, ok. Thanks @StarCrazy

@Ish , they may be too busy to have gotten to you yet. Maybe they will contact you, but it might be a while I’m thinking.

I think the terrible part about this is there is no real work program in place. If the government want disabled people to work they need to invest in schemes that train people up and have schemes that employ people to overlook and assist disabled people in their work place.

Instead, if you go to a job centre for help finding a job they will just put you on a computer and tell you to apply for jobs. Its not really helpful to actually get work unless you are completely IT illiterate.
They could also give an incentive to employers to actually hire disabled people.

Instead the government just seem to want to stop financially helping people who can’t work but not really put much of a system in place to aid them into work. Its a joke.

I’ve never been pestered in 20 years of claiming disability benefits. I would like a job but there isn’t any support in getting one. My housemate in group home applied for many jobs and because he’s autistic he had failed to get one in 10 months.

I would have liked to have had the help and support that would’ve made a paid job a realistic possibility . Now, at 68, I’m in line for the kind of assessment that should’ve been done nearly 50 years ago. The severe social anxiety and non bizarre paranoia, were always bigger hurdles to get over than the schizophrenia. Even though I may have understated re the schizophrenia. Care cos response to my saying it’s comparatively mild was to say that it’s managed well.

My only option to get paid working is self-employment. I am still thinking to call myself underpaid dreamer, poet and writer.

This is the longest I’ve been out of work. 2 years. It’s not great my confidence is going to the ground.

I thought I’d get a lot of grief from the job centre for trying to be a self employed tutor. Fingers crossed nothing bad happens, but so far they’ve accepted my request to do it and nothing as far as benefits go has been affected yet.

You can deduct your costs of materials etc from income you register with them

Like computer equipment and stuff like that you can take off without you losing money

I had no idea, do you know what it’s called? So I can Google it before I ask them about it.

Cos I need a camera and whiteboard but both are quite pricey :smiling_face_with_tear:
