Due to ongoing psychosis, I had to switch around my way of eating

I’ve been on roller coaster lately.. to avoid admission to psych ward, I went to old and tested ways of eating one meal a day. I eat animal based diet (rib eye, butter, eggs, salt, water)

What science says about fasting?

Eating one meal a day (OMAD), a form of intermittent fasting, can offer several potential benefits when done correctly. However, it may not suit everyone and should be approached thoughtfully. Here are some possible benefits:

1. Weight Loss

  • OMAD can create a calorie deficit, helping you burn stored fat.
  • The extended fasting period may enhance fat-burning by increasing your body’s reliance on stored fat for energy.

2. Improved Insulin Sensitivity

  • Fasting can help regulate blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity, reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes over time.

3. Enhanced Autophagy

  • Prolonged fasting stimulates autophagy, a cellular process where your body removes damaged cells and regenerates new ones, promoting overall health.

4. Simplified Meal Planning

  • Eating only one meal eliminates the need for multiple meal preparations, saving time and reducing stress around food decisions.

5. Potential for Increased Focus

  • Some people report improved mental clarity and focus during fasting periods due to steady energy levels and reduced digestive workload.

6. Possible Hormonal Benefits

  • OMAD may help regulate hunger hormones like ghrelin, potentially reducing appetite over time and improving long-term adherence to a healthy eating routine.

7. Supports Heart Health

  • Fasting has been linked to lower levels of LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood pressure, which are key markers for cardiovascular health.

8. Encourages Mindful Eating

  • Focusing on just one meal can help you be more intentional about the quality of food you consume, often leading to better nutritional choices.

Precautions:

OMAD isn’t for everyone and may pose challenges or risks for certain groups:

  • Potential risks: Nutrient deficiencies, fatigue, irritability, or overeating during the single meal.
  • It’s not recommended for pregnant/nursing individuals, those with a history of eating disorders, or people with certain health conditions like hypoglycemia.
  • Athletes or those with high energy demands may need more frequent meals.

If you’re considering OMAD, make sure your single meal is nutrient-dense, includes healthy fats and protein. Stay hydrated and listen to your body. Eating is not complicated but consider consulting healthcare professional before making drastic changes to your diet.

I am on a keto diet and I do omad several days a week. The other days I do two meals a day.

I have been doing this since Jan of 2018 with no bad side effects.

It turns off my hallucinations and delusions and helps my mood. I get some breakthrough symptoms sometimes so I would say it works about 90% of the time.

The only downside is that I cheat sometimes and my hallucinations come back quickly and take a week or so to fade back out again.

You get it. Thank you for sharing your story. Glad to see like-minded person who understands power of ketosis

All remissions I’ve had is when I went into deep ketosis, 80% of calories were coming from animal fats, and 20% from protein.

As Charlie foundation who healed his son epilepsy with strict ketogenic diet. My food choices are more like carnivorous, it’s more strict way of eating as it fully eliminates everything but the fatty meat and salt.:meat_on_bone:

Congratulations on your previous success with the diet. It’s not an easy diet to stick with longterm but it can be worth it.

Is there good evidence behind this diet? I use to follow a YouTuber with sz who said this cured her sz… Alot of people didn’t believe her.

I’m just asking because I’m desperate to control my symptoms…

Since we humans need to eat food in order to survive, you might as well eat something that’s healthy for you.

The carnivorous or ketogenic way of eating is truly that simple.

I like to eat first thing in the morning. I eat a huge meal and it carries me all day. I don’t usually get hungry until 8 or 9 at night and that’s when I go to bed. It is not a problem for me to go to bed on an empty stomach.

It’s a slow process, there’s a good chance that coming off western diet might not going to work immediately, especially if person eating junk food on daily basis.

What Vinegar wrote is a champ mode, you might not going to arrive there instantly, perhaps start with removing bad food from diet, and start with intermittent fasting eating your calories in 8 hour window, and then once you are comfortable and have good relationship with food, then start shrinking eating window overtime.

Just my humble opinion, sorry for any generalizations.
