Driver's license not renewed due to diagnosis?

So I have to renew my license this year. I was diagnosed with all sorts of stuff in 2017, including a PD. I’m in Texas.

The renewal application says

“Within the past two years, have you been diagnosed with, been hospitalized for or are you now receiving treatment for a psychiatric disorder?”

The answer is yes. I’m bracing for the worst. How do the rest of you handle this?

Good question. I live in Oklahoma and I’m not sure if there is any questions or a renewal application since we don’t have to renew but every five years.

in Ireland they question do you have a serious psychiatric disorder…I said no…I dotn believe my sz to be serious…my licence was renewed

I’m from Texas. They revoked my license because I am schizoaffective. But then they said i was medically okay. I have to ask them what the letter means. I have to pay 100 dollars to get it back if they let me.

I’d like to know more about your experience with them. I assume you clicked yes on the box. What questions did they ask you before revoking your license?

How do you get around or work without a license?!? Join the amish and get a horse?

They sent my mail to my moms and she never gave me my mail. I got papers five months later and sent the papers they wanted to them. Then they revoked my dl. Then said I was medically cleared.

It was my fault for not picking up my mail

Did you have to send in a psych history or have to release your records to them?

Yeah my pdoc sent his side of it to them.

I renewed mine last month. No problems with it. Just answered the questions with the truth.

In QLD, Australia, I have a medical certificate to say I can drive and a ‘M’ on my license which means medical condition. The medical cert states that I must remain on treatment for schizophrenia and cannot drive if experiencing a psychotic episode.

There is probably a similar system in place where you live.

I live in Ohio. I’ve never been asked this stuff when I renew. Have had a license since age 16.

In Manitoba they are only allowed to ask if you have had a seizure in the last year and if you have to wear glasses.

Got my license at 17. Got sick at 19. I drove off and on until I was 30. but I’ve been driving steadily since I was 37. I live in California and whenever I renewed my license they never asked about a mental illness and I never volunteered the information. I’m happy. DMV is happy. End of story.

Hell, we have to let the mentally ill drive in California. How else is our governor supposed to get to work?

Are you a safe driver @trelos?

Yes. More than 10 years since my last accident and no tickets in more than 5 or 6 years. You can actually have your driver’s license revoked for schizoid, which is not even a psychotic disorder…or for paranoid personality. No psychotropic meds either.

i’m in the uk and i passed my test 2 yrs 4mths ago, i just asked my gp dr if it was ok and he gave me the go ahead but i dont remember any other paperwork, he may have told he dvla but i cant remember, i was a bit worried about stating it on my insurance but i’m sure it was worded in a way that i could get away with, i’m driving a mobility car now anyway so its cool.

What they need to worry about are the scads of elderly drivers out there causing accidents. Leave us alone.
