Why do I keep dreaming about being taken into hospital? Had this dream tonight too. I ran away from there. This time it was my sister dropping me off there.
Why Do Some Dreams Recur?
Most dreams contain messages that serve to teach you something about yourself. However, soon after you wake up to go about your daily routine, you tend to quickly forget what you dream about. The message in recurring dreams may be so important and/or powerful that it refuses to go away. The frequent repetition of such dreams forces you to pay attention and confront the dream. It is desperately trying to tell you something. Such dreams are often nightmarish or frightening in their content, which also helps you to take notice and pay attention to them.
Recurring dreams are quite common and are often triggered by a certain life situation, transitional phase in life or a problem that keeps coming back again and again. These dreams may recur daily, once a week, or once a month. Whatever the frequency, there is little variation in the dream content itself. Such dreams may be highlighting a personal weakness, fear, or your inability to cope with something in your life - past or present.
The repetitive patterns in your dream reveal some of the most valuable information about yourself. It may point to a conflict, situation or matter in your waking life that remains unresolved or unsettled. Some urgent underlying message in your unconscious is demanding to be understood.
Hospital
To see or dream that you are in a hospital symbolizes your need to heal or improve your physical or mental health. You need to get back to the flow of everyday life. Alternatively, the dream suggests that you are giving up control of your own body. Perhaps you are afraid of losing control of your body.
Sister
To see your sister in your dream symbolizes some aspect of your relationship with her, whether it one of sibling rivalry, nurturance, protectiveness, etc. Your sister may draw attention to your family role. Or the dream may also serve to remind you that someone in your waking life has characteristics similar to your sister. Alternatively, your sister may be a metaphor for a nun. In this case, she may represent some spiritual issues.
If you do not have a sister and dream that you have one, then it signifies feminine qualities that you need to activate or acknowledge within your own self. Pay attention to the actions and behavior of your dream sister.
Escape
To dream that you escape from jail or some place of confinement signifies your need to escape from a restrictive situation or attitude. Alternatively, it suggests that you are refusing to face your problems. You are avoiding the situation, instead of confronting them.
To dream that you escape from injury, from an animal, or from any situation signifies your good health and prosperity. You will experience a favorable turn of events.
Dreaming that you are unable to make an escape represents a feeling of helplessness or not being able to escape from life’s problems and stresses. Consider the significance and symbolism of where or what you are trying to escape from. The dream may also point to a lack of direction or confidence.
My sister took care of me in the dream. I am terrified of losing control. And I prop am afraid of facing my problems. I have a tendancy to avoid facing my problems. I carry on like there’s nothing wrong with me. I want to be normal. But my brain keep tripping me over all the time. I get up and continue like it was nothing.
What types of therapy have you tried?
Cbt and mindfulness.
Maybe fear of having to go back there? Feeling trapped? Helpless?
I used to have constant nightmares of being kidnapped and taken to labs where experiments were performed on me.
Yes. I am afraid of having to go there. I was locked up for 6 months last time. I’ve refused to go there 3 times when my pdoc wanted me in there.
Jungian analysis will work more on your dreams if you wish to do more work on that.
Last night I dreamed of being in hospital, too, wanted to escape. I’ve been sick again, been off my meds this week, so maybe its like a warning I must go back on or I will go back in hospital. Once, again when I was ill, I dreamed twice of being in hospital, and then the following week I landed up in hospital, strange, but true!
I feel afraid in the dream. I feel I need to escape.
Do you know what your afraid of?
No. I just feel this great fear in the dream. Maybe it’s loss of control and freedom. I can’t do what I want when I want. I can’t trust anyone not even myself because what I believed turned out to be false.
Dream moods came up with this…
Fear
To dream that you feel fear indicates that your achievements will not be as successful as you had anticipated. You are experiencing anxieties in various aspects of your life. The key to overcoming your fear is to discuss them and deal with them openly.
To dream that you worse fears are coming true signifies your resistance to change. You are afraid to confront the unknown aspects of yourself.
Thank you. I will think about this.
