Does this sound like fraud?

My brother in law had tons of dr visits etc before he got disability benefits. As soon as he was awarded disability, he stopped seeing drs altogether. Now he’s being reviewed. Do you think they’ll just cancel his benefits, or does it sound like fraud? To me it sounds like fraud. I’m worried he’ll go to prison.

Having less visits doesn’t mean fraud. You don’t know his body so you can’t determine his disability. His doctor reports to the review board and has impact on the review.

Ok. Thanks. 1515

Actually, he hasn’t had a single dr appointment in the last 3 years. Does that make a difference? @anon4362788

I would think it matters what exactly is wrong with him. If it is something that disables him but can’t be fixed there is no point in going to the doctor all the time.

He has bad knees, a bad shoulder, and mental illness

Well all those things could prevent him from working if they were deemed serious when he first saw the doctor and went on disability. I wouldn’t be too worried if that was the case…

If he has a good explanation for not seeing a doctor he should be alright. If a doctor could improve his condition the disability people might frown on him not seeing one. But if his condition is permanent than maybe disability doesn’t care. But it seems like it may not be fraud but it does look bad to disability if his condition could improve but he’s not even trying to get better by seeing doctors.

its common for people with mental illness to lack insight, so it should be factored in to the disability…

I’ve thought this too. I hope we’re right and he doesn’t lose his disability
