So I was on risperdal thank god medicaid covers latuda now, because I went up four sixes. My question is if I had continued risperdal would the weight gain ever stop or would i eventually be 400 lbs?
Risperdal was an awful med for me, sexual side effects, weight gain you name it. I’m on fluphenazine and have now lost almost 50 pounds…good luck.
I think the weight gain would stop – that is level out. When I was on Risperdal and Abilify, I gained 100 lbs. When I got off, I lost about 60 lbs. But now that I’m back on Risperdal, I’m gaining weight again. However, this time, I’m exercising now and I plan to eat healthier and lose some weight. I used to be fit before the illness (6’1’’ and 180 lbs). Now, I’m well over 200 lbs.
When you got off what med did you get put on to lose 100 lbs
I lost about 60 lbs getting off all anti-psychotics and being put on Topamax (Topamax helps with weight loss). But I had to get off Topamax because it ended up making me paranoid. I lost the weight pretty fast (like in a few months). Now, I’m gaining weight again because of Risperdal and because I like cheese burgers .
I’m on the Ability 400mg shot. In six months I’ve gained 30 lbs. Topamax was added but is not helping. I use My Fitness Pal for calorie counting and walk 2 miles a day. It’s very frustrating. Going to ask to be taken off this drug. Not weight neutral for me.
I’ve gained like 100 lbs on meds. It stops eventually and levels out.
When I was on 15mg risperidone i gained 15kgs
I gained 35 kilos on Olanzapine.
I have lost 15 kilos in three years since. I have taken Lurisdone, Haloperidol, Aripiprazole and now Amisulpride.
As Jimbob put it ages ago, you can either choose weight gain and diabetes or movement problems.
I guess I rather have weight gain and diabetes, even though I hate diabetes so much. I remember having a stiff neck from Risperdal. I hated it.
I went the other way. I decided that if I put on any more weight I probably would get diabetes.
That comes with a whole set of problems in itself. I nearly got put on beta blockers before for akathisia, but luckily a med change stopped the involuntary movements for a time.
I gained on Risperdal but have lost 28 pounds since moving to Invega. I also eat way less.
Risperdal was good for my symptoms, but came with an almost uncontrollable appetite.
I got up to 300 pounds on risperdal, but lost 75 while on risperdal through diet and exercise.
You can lose weight on risperdal, you just have to want it REALLY bad.
Zombie thread, lol
I lost 50 pounds while on Risperdal, Geodon and Seroquel all together. And am keeping it off for the most part. Yes, I wanted it real bad.
ap is maily appetizers they cause you to eat more but if you eat low colries food , fruits and vegtables you ll not gain wt latly
My weight kept going up on risperdal I doubt it would of ever stopped. Now on invega which is risperdal tweaked a little bit. You do gain weight on it but then it stops.
I lost weight when I just took Geodon for an AP. About 30 pounds. Now that I take Latuda too I put on 50 pounds but I am a tall guy and I was really skinny just on the Geodon.
I don’t seem to be gaining anymore and I don’t have much of an appetite. So really I am only 20 pounds over my normal weight.
I’ve been taking Seroquel (600 mg) for the last few years, and here’s my story. In the first year I did gain 60 lbs, going from 200 lbs to 260 lbs. Then I started to eat healthy (fish for dinner with a vegetable), and I joined a dance class (3X per week). I lost 65 lbs (going from 260 lbs to 195 lbs). I quit the dance class when I bought a house, and I also started to eat unhealthy. Yup, I currently weigh 245 lbs.
I know that I can maintain a healthy weight while taking Seroquel. I just have to stop making excuses.
Yes. I gained a lot but then just maintained mostly. Earlier this year I hit my peak at 110kgs and just wasn’t happy. It’s taken me most of the year but I’m much fitter and down to around 102kgs. I gained mostly on risperdal but have lost on zyprexa.
Discipline really is something you need to develop! You can lose weight if done rightly.
I’m on generic prolixin…fluphenazine, and I have lost fifty pounds with dieting.
