In order to survive, we have to eat something that would rather not be eaten.
To me , this means that the universe is in fact a completely sinister place.

The food chain is very violent.
We came from a species (monkeys) that was very much vegetarian. Somehow we became carnivores. We don’t need to be.
Life consumes life. True for the smallest and the largest.
The concept has been broached a few times in sci-fi of a creature that can subside on silicates and carbon. I always liked those stories. Gem eaters.
Don’t hesitate for a second in thinking many things in that food chain would eat you. Given the chance.
Or you could go level 7 vegan and not consume anything that casts a shadow.
We are not decended from monkeys.
I think we’ve always been eating other animals.
What’s your source?
i eat vegetables. i dont think they mind. life is not a competition. most animals in the jungle live a full natural life. some become food but it is the minority. animals eat when hungry but you dont see a lion killing all the bulls. he or she kills one out of two hundred or more.
I personally am doing OK without eating animal products.
It really is not a necessity to me.
Sorry misinformation- We came from primates - chimpanzees (came from primates also) so are our cousins. We share 99% dna with them tho.
True. We are not from monkeys.
We’re actually apes not monkeys. Most monkeys have tails, apes don’t. There are other differences too but that’s the main one. We’re all primates though.
Other apes are primarily vegetarian but they are known to eat meat on occasion. I think chimpanzees are the biggest meat eating apes after humans.
I also think about this a lot. It’s like everything feeds off of each other in order to survive. I do eat more vegetarian, but still. The world is one F’d up place to live in.
I don’t think humans should eat animals for the animals and environment.
Just take b12 supplements and eat vegan and be as cruelty free as possible.
The factory farming mass produced animals for meat is cruel and disrespectful I think.
To hunt a deer or so in wild and appreciate and respect it’s life and quick kill is nicer.
vegetables, fruits, mushrooms, herbs
Wild deer come to our yards every night and eat our flowers.
I am pro factory farm reform.
I think if meat eaters saw how the animals are treated - just unveil the curtain.
It would make people demand change.
The food chain is brutal but delicious, I’m just glad to be towards the top of it. I like to harvest my own food when I can, and try to buy ethically farmed food when I have the money too. I’ve also been leaning more plant based, but I never plan on completely cutting out animal products.
This point of view usually pisses someone off, but I do like animals to be treated nicely before being harvested. Needless suffering is needless suffering and the way our farming industry is currently set up does cause a lot of needless suffering. It is based around producing as much meat as possible and getting it out to as many people as possible.
It really is a multifaceted issue which includes food deserts, a growing population to feed, lack of funding, and a lack of education about proper nutrition. These are all issues that need to be addressed before farming mass animal products can be anywhere near considered ethical.
Very thoughtful post @Squanchy
Food chains sound okay. I’m not so sure about food whips and chains.
Humans used to have tails and some people are born with it. It’s called atavism- but we no longer use those tails in our daily lives.
I’ve seen both meat being harvested in the wild and in industrial settings. Hunted animals often suffer more.
No but the point is they had a life in the wild.
They were not born into a life of servitude.
Not much of a life during a bad winter. During that same winter cattle are getting food daily, vetrinary care as needed, and some shelter from the elements. Not uncommon to find deer carcases all over in the spring when a crap winter finally lets up.
