Does taking zyprexa always cause diabetes eventually? (100% of the time?)

I am suddenly very worried about zyprexa and getting diabetes. Does it always happen?

Been on it for 6 years. No weight gain. No side effects. It works when other meds failed me (treatment resistant).

I can’t stop it. I get suicidal and in/out of state hospitals bad without it. And my family says it’s a golden wonder med for me.

No, you can avoid it, but it helps to try and control what you eat and how much, even though the meds make you hungry

It did for me. The majority that I know who have taken it have wound up diabetic, though.

Thanks @Mr_Hope

I do try to limit what I eat especially how much. I hope that helps me. I am trying to make myself get back to going to a gym again too hopefully.

Thanks @shutterbug

I’m sorry to hear this. How long were you on zyprexa for it to cause you to get diabetic?

I’ve been taking it for 11 years. I don’t have diabetes. I gained a lot of weight but that is because I don’t exercise. I try to avoid sugary foods. Diabetes runs in the family but I hope I don’t get it.

I ended up in the hospital because my blood sugar was Soo high on zyprexa. I gained 60 lbs and lost it all after stopping it

During the short amount of time I was on Zyprexa I really craved sugar. The other guys at the mental hospital with me craved sugar too. Maybe that’s how it causes diabetes. If you want to try another med. you might think about trying Geodon and Seroquel. I’ve had good luck with them.

I’m planning on stopping my Olanzapine (Zyprexa) too once I run out of it. Glad you lost all of that weight man. Im just scared of insomnia after stopping it.

Negs, meds, sleep disorders and being extremely lazy is the culprit.
