Anyone on that medicine caplyta? I think someone put a lot of reviews before ir was availible in the pharmacies. Does it even work?
I felt like I was only half medicated on it. I’d say it’s a weak antipsychotic.
It works for me in conjunction to another, stronger antipsychotic. For me, when we started it, I saw noticable help with my negative symptoms. Only when I lose sanity does those negative symptoms come roaring back.
Moving to Medications.
I take Caplyta as a standalone antipsychotic. Have been since 2021.
Firstly, as Holly mentioned, it is a lighter ap. I have found that it works for me as my symptoms have been very mild since my last break in 2015. If you have more profound and ongoing symptoms, it may not be enough to counter those.
Additionally, it seems to be an especially “hit or miss” ap. Even if you do have milder symptoms, it doesn’t work for a solid chunk of people. I wish I had a percentage to give you, but, from what I’ve read, this issue exists more so with Caplyta than other aps.
The main selling point, and the reason why I love it: the side effects are far more manageable. I do not feel emotionally stunted as I did on other aps. I have a wider range of emotions and it helps me feel more normal and functional. It didn’t give me akathisia. Weight gain is very uncommon on it. I gained some weight, but not nearly at the rate that I was on Abilify. I don’t feel as tired on it either.
Tldr: it’s a med that is high risk vs high reward, imo. I think it’s worth a shot as a standalone, but you need to monitor your symptoms very actively and have a good backup plan.
Only one way to find out.
