Does anything good come out of watching news

been watching news this week. I used to notice the news was bad for my mental health, I would be triggered by the reporting or opinions. lately it hasn’t been so bad, it just makes me more tolerant in a way. what do you think. does anybody watch the news? and do you think anything good comes from it?

I don’t watch the news. It agitates me for some reason. But I get news headlines on my rss app. So I’m up to date on what’s happening anyway.

It triggers me too. Not as bad as it used to but I still don’t watch it or go to news websites. I only see the few news stories on my phone.

Since I have been offered a federal job I have read a few news stories on the government shutdown but that’s it. I hope the government gets opened back up soon. I don’t really care whether we get more walls or not. So the politics of it don’t really bother me. If we build one okay. If we don’t I don’t really care.

I used to work with border concerns to include illegal immigration and drug smuggling when I was in the military and the smugglers just dig tunnels underneath the walls we already have. We were always finding them. Now I just don’t see why they just don’t go to where there is no wall.

In any event they will keep digging tunnels.

I was flying my helicopter once in Arizona and found a young woman in a red dress in the middle of the desert once. A coyote from Mexico had left her there. We gave her water and called the border patrol to come pick her up. If we wouldn’t have found her she probably would have died of thirst. She was miles and miles away from anywhere in the middle of a live fire training range. She drank a whole bunch of our water.

The news usually upsets me. They hardly ever report good things that happen. Makes it seem like nothing good happens anymore when it does happen.

Kinda upsets me at times and the weather people often make it sound like you are going to die if you step outside the door

I don’t watch tv so that includes the news. I have stopped going to Yahoo, CNN, Fox, any news sites because I find the news to be upsetting and agitating to me. I used to go to different sites to try and get a balanced view of what’s going on in the world. I don’t trust the left or the right.

I have no tv. I dont watch the news, I hardly follow it in other ways either, except for the rare browsing through a newspaper in a cafe. I do hear stuff from my friends and family. They tell me if there is something I need to know.

I’m not triggered. I just don’t understand why I should follow it. I’m already overwhelmed by my own life. I don’t think anyone benefits from me following the news.

An example would be the news about Syrian refugees. It might sound harsh, but I generally choose to not read sad sensational news stories about faraway people I don’t know and have no means of helping. Instead I befriended a Syrian couple. I helped them with language stuff and we became friends. I do hear their personal stories and how it is for their family in Syria and Libanon and how they experience life. I know them and can respond with genuine empathy and help. This kind of “news” I find more relevant to know.

Im odd, I guess. Or perhaps all the others are.

I can’t help but think I would be better off turning it off. maybe follow local news and events. I feel like I have a cleaner spirit when im not influenced by nightly news. also I have less potential baggage to cloud any social encounters I may have. it’s like your getting the real me instead of me under the influence of news.

I quit the news over a year ago. I have no clue what’s going on. I miss it. I might start watching again. Idk.

Don’t listen to opinions much. Political ideas come from previous centuries and have generally been the same for decades. Most people are only converted from one opinion to another if something major happens to them that makes them one of the people who have to support an idea that favors them. Most news is negative as it is. As you may notice violence and divisions usually rule. If you watch the news do it as a hobby on a specific subject, or watch local news when it includes positive news stories. The local news here turned more positive when the police jammed their frequency and told the media what they wanted them to know about local crime which wasn’t much. So the local stations had to talk more about positive events going on. But not every city has that situation.

Entrepreneurs are encouraged to avoid the news, since it negatively impacts the fragile positivity that one has, which is important to keep his business running. One bad news article can bum a person out for hours, sometimes.

The person I live with in VA has it on non stop 24/7 day and night.

In CA on vacation here I have it off the whole time. I haven’t read or watched a shred of news in three weeks and I feel like I’m in paradise. I’m so much more relaxed, calm, and amenable. I love not watching the news.

The news is trash. I never watch it or read it. I don’t watch television either.

I don’t watch network tv, so no TV news for me. But I do read a lot of news sites. I find a lot of it upsetting because I live in the US and things are going on at the moment that need to not be. But I think it’s important for me to stay up to date with world and local news.

I have a TV. I dust it once a week. I keep up with some news stories on the internet, such as the US government shutdown. Other than that, I stick with positive things.

Yes, i believe good things come from watching the news.
It’s entertaining to me, i feel connected to what’s happening and less isolated.

And the local weather report helps me prepare for the days ahead, what to expect and what clothes to wear.
