Does anyone see a general practitioner doctor- instead of a psychiatrist or mental health nurse practitioner?

just curious. it sems like if i get stable enough eventually, and if i get kicked off disability or need to find a way to save money, i can just see a general practitioner every few months and get cheap generics for my meds.

My GP prescribe all my meds, psych meds and other conditions. Over and above that I see my pdoc twice a year. He also give scripts for psych meds, same as GP.

My primary care physician won’t prescribe Abilify, so my psychiatrist has to prescribe it. I only see him on an as needed basis. Once a week I talk to my therapist on the phone, and she monitors my well being. Also I go to an in-person therapy group once a week, but I haven’t gone the last two weeks.
