I just emailed the head of my town’s human services, looking for volunteer work. I was wondering if anyone has volunteered routinely before for your city/town. I used to do Meals on Wheels back in 2018, but I don’t want to do that anymore.
I volunteer in a museum in my city.
That would be cool! What kind of museum?
It’s a museum in a 900 year old abbey. I’m an audience facilitator.
That’s awesome, wow. That’d be a really cool place to volunteer!
I used to do it a lot pre-pandemic.
That’s cool, man! That wouldn’t even feel like work lol @Jonathan2
Yeah, I’m a little nervous about working/volunteering during a pandemic. But I will follow the safety protocols, and I’m fully boosted. I just need to get out of the house a bit lol @shutterbug
Im an off and on Tea “Lady” at a day centre for the elderly, covid has shut it a couple of times tho - and not been for a few weeks.
Its only a couple of hours twice a week - and i make sure i have a good chat with them, whilst im dishing out the biccys.
I score the odd free lunch too.
You reminded me - i must ring them, and find out whats going on.
That’s really cool @Jonathan2 @Naarai. I really want to volunteer but waiting for the right thing to come up. There is a charity shop looking for assistants but they’re looking for a Sunday person which I can’t do. There’s also a receptionist at the Hospice but I’m a little bit scared of that because I really suffered with bereavement when I was younger. I hope I find something though, I’ve got a lot to give.
Im sure you will find a voluntary job that suits you. I wont work in a charity shop cos it means conversing with the public. Just find something that your comfortable with.
I only work with the elderly, cos i know they wont be threatening lol
I really miss coaching youth archery and volunteer driving a school bus.
That sounds awesome. Do you think you’ll get back to it when things open back up and health permits?
The coaching, probably. I am paranoid about driving now since the strokes a few years ago. I can’t imagine how horrible would be if I threw more clots while driving around a bus full of kids. I think it’s time to let that go. I’m keeping the bus license as we’re buying an RV that will require one and my wife is scared of driving something that size.
I’ve been volunteering for the Church since 2008. Recently, I’ve been the President of my parish presidium and I’ve really been enjoying that.
Me and the Vice President go evangelizing door to door when the weather is good enough. I, also evangelize online. The others assist the elderly in group prayers, or assist teachers in religious education of children. It’s all great fun. And work as well.
I volunteer for dinner, but no, I haven’t volunteered. I do donate what money I can afford to good causes. I’ve thought about volunteering teaching people to read. I also would be good at tutoring people for the GED. I usually did well on the standardized tests. I think I could do a good job of it.
Yeah, I volunteer via church.
I volenteer to my U3A as a Convenor and Committee Member. I am also responsible for their IT needs. It has about 550 members.
Translation, please.
I used to volunteer in a hospital helping disabled ppl and elderly.
