I feel like my sex drive has been incredibly low and I’ve been on risperidone for 5 months now. I don’t know whether to attribute this to my meds or depression. But then is my depression a side effect of the meds? I don’t know. I do know this medication has been helping me for sure tho and if these are side effects it’s not that bad but I used to have an incredibly high sex drive now it just feels bleh. I also don’t feel comfortable in my body lately so that might be a huge factor. anyways does anyone feel similar about this?
yes me too. I switched to invega and I am better now.

I have a low sex drive on Risperidone as well 
Invega is not much different from Risperidone. I wonder how it doesn’t affect the sex drive as much as Risperidone. Puzzling!

Blockade of dopamine D2 receptors in the tuberoinfundibular pathway by antipsychotics may decrease the libido, impair arousal, and impair orgasm indirectly, by leading to elevated prolactin levels. Cholinergic receptor antagonism may induce erectile dysfunction by reducing peripheral vasodilation.

One thing we do know is that drug-free patients with schizophrenia have lower sexual libido, decreased frequency of sexual thoughts, a decreased frequency of sexual intercourse and higher requirements for masturbation. Sexual activity was also found to be reduced in patients with schizophrenia compared with the general population; 27% of schizophrenia patients reported no voluntary sexual activity and 70% reported having no partner. While untreated schizophrenia patients exhibit decreased sexual desire, neuroleptic treatment is associated with restoration of sexual desire, yet it entails erectile, orgasmic and sexual satisfaction problems.

SSRI’s do it too so if you are on those and anti-psychotics you are getting a double wammy.

I stopped one time to know the real gravity of the illness respect the side effect of the medication and the gravity was 2/10 no hallucination no delusion no depressione

No nothing psychotic episode I can stay one year stable without psychotic episode only some disorders

im 17 years on ap’s and ssri’s…I have no sytopms since 2010…maybe I could try stopping them sometime
