I’m studying German. It’s a hard language to learn. I don’t care to be an expert. I just wanna get by. I’m doing it on duolingo.com
I cant speak it well, but i can understand most. It is close to my language.
What is your language?
Same as @anon73478309, I don’t speak it well, but I understand some due to the similarities to Danish
Dutch. 15151515.
My Dutch friend has problems learning German because the languages are too similar, and yet different, he says
I did learn german at school. The similarities make it easier to understand, but sometimes when speaking it is tempting to just use a dutch word and put a german sound to it… while you need a totally different word.
I do that with Danish and Norwegian. If I forget the word in one language, I just borrow from the other
My high school didn’t offer German only French and Spanish.
My parents still speak it to me as I grew up there up to age of eight or something like that… So
I know a bit…but in terms of me writing it that’s pretty bad
I took intensive German in college. I loved it. I thought it was fun both to learn and to speak. Love those compound nouns.
I have basic German, but am not fluent. I’m lucky that I have a friend who grew up in Germany, so we speak in a weird mix of English, German, and the odd bit of Gaelic. You’d need a genius to translate our text messages Good luck learning a new language!
I do ok in German so far. I get Die, Das and Der mixed up and I’m not great at conjugation. Spanish conjugation was easy for me. German not so.
In the end I probably won’t be fluent. That’s ok. I just like learning languages.
Also their word for sorry is like 20 characters long. Entschuldigung
I only know swear words in german
Yeah I don’t think the site teaches swear words.
Actually I know some very basic German. But knowledge of the gender of words is non-existant
My mum is German but it was quite racist in uk when she arrived and didn’t want half bred british kids…
we lived in Italy for a couple of years and as a young young child i could speak italian at nursery
I went to germany about 30 x growing up
i always used to think it was Geinschuldegunk
Holy crap! I’m so confused about gender. Die, das und der? I know that die frau und die frauen are the same gender.
My neighbour is fluent in about 5 languages. His parents work took him all over Europe as a kid.
I think a lot of native English speakers struggle with the genders
