That’s so cool! I’d love to know Arabic and mandarin (Chinese). I tried to learn these but gave up. It was too hard.
Inflection languages are beyond me. When I holidayed in Thailand I thought the language was beautiful - sounded like singing
Yeah the grammar is a minefield, there’s no consistency or pattern to it at all. Also the formal and informal, (like du hast, or sie haben)… it is complicated!
I remember a fish is neuter… Just in case you ever need to know that
Duolingo.com is really good because you learn by trial and error. They don’t have a place to donate to the website though. It’s a free site and for language lovers I think we should be able to donate if we want.
So it’s das fisch?
Yep… I don’t know why that popped into my head lol. You just have to learn the individiual genders of everything, I have difficulty with this and often have to look them up or ask my friend to correct me. I’ll have to have a look at that website, it would be good to improve my German.
Do you know if all Asian languages use inflection? I know mandarin does.
I don’t think Japanese does. Not sure if the Indian languages do either
Oh yeah. That’s right! I forgot I took Japanese in college.
Danke danke

I speak Korean (not perfectly but it is my native language) and I know how to write in Latin a little bit.
I remember anyonghashimnika.
It means hello or thanku.
And kamsahamnida
I can speak and understand German since I learned it as a small child (my parents were from Germany and often spoke German at home). I am OK at reading German but terrible at writing German.
I was raised in germany, coming from poland. I now speak way better german than polish. The only thing that I’m not sure of is dem/den and einen/einem, what also is important to know is seit/seid.
You write seit if it is about a Time like a Date or the past, on an happening or event, and seid if it is about people or animals,
Like; Seit dem Weihnachten vorbei ist, habe ich zwei Kilo abgenommen.
(Since the Christmas is over I have lost two pounds.)
And for seid; Seid ihr noch wach ?
(Are you still awake?)
And also really important in terms of writing german is das/dass.
Like, dass; … dass du mir geschrieben hast, hat mich sehr gefreut.
(that you wrote to me, I was very happy.)
Or; gesetzt den Fall, dass … .
(set the case that …)
And, das; Das Glas, das auf dem Tisch steht, ist leer.
(The glass that stands on the table is empty.)
The Duden would help a lot. But I don’t got one.
