Does anybody have any tips to lose belly fat on antipsychotics/antidepressants?

Im on olanzapine 5mg and flouxetine 10mgm

I have also now been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and pcos.

I seem to get gaining more weight particularly round my lower stomach and as a result have got many stretch marks forming there.

I have been treated for hypothyroidism and pcos with levothyroxine been on it for around 2 months and birthcontrol only just started.

I know i should avoid added sugar and transfats. But it is so hard with my line of work (fast food worker) im also worried about becoming physically and maybe even mentally disabled from all the drugs im taking now.

Can someone just put my mind at ease and give me some tips that have helped them?

Im a short rectangle body shape leaning towards a pear with short legs and 36 d boobs. Around average for both top and bottom.

Sorry. I’m afraid none of us have a clue outside of the new, prescription weight loss drugs like Wegovy, Ozempic and Mounjaro. And even with those, the results are limited.

Just thought you should know that the AP you’re taking, Olanzapine, is the worst weight gaining AP med out there. Maybe you could ask your doctor to switch you to a different, less weight gaining, AP?

Find out if that medication above (brand name Lybalvi) is available in your country. If it is, then talk to your doctor about it.

@Sleeping

Yeah abilify made me do the same

What I do for weight loss on olanzapine and an antidepressant is to use strict portion control. I just am very strict with myself.

I have not used any of those weight loss shots ever either and I’m down 13 lbs so far.

You can do it! I’m on another antipsychotic too with the olanzapine. I’m gonna be off that one maybe though. Might be able to lose more weight that way.

I went from Cymbalta to Trintellix and lost some weight. I also take Libalvi too.

Trying low carb now. I’ll let ya know if it works

The only way I could lose on it was through my diet. I had to weigh, count, and measure all my food and then track the calories in MyFitnessPal. I’ve lost quite a bit and hope to lose more.

The truth is one has to learn to cope with being hungry,

If you can do that then progress can be made.

It is not easy to get accustomed to, but no real weight loss can be made without adjusting to it, unless you cheat and use a drug to stave off hunger.

Most people can’t do it, so don’t worry if you can’t.

@Sleeping i hate that my old pdoc said she didnt beleive that abilify can cause impulsiveness and addictions like buying things, sex etc etc. Every sza or sz person i have ever spoken to thats on it struggles with these things at least somewhat or at least in the first couple years of taking it. That pdoc (whom i was seeing for like ten years) was pretty bad.
Edit: i dont hate her. Was just frustrating among many other things she did.

Ive found that its pretty much a myth to lose weight on only a certain part of your body intentionally. The only way to do it is to lose weight evenly over your whole body i reckon. Cardio and healthy eating is the way. But yeah it can feel almost near impossible on olanzapine. I was on that morning and night for years. Hated it.

I looked at joining a gym and $$$. There’s a snow angel program in town where people who can shovel the walks of people who can’t at no charge. Shoveling snow is good exercise. That’s what I’m working on right now.

@Ozzyskits the reality is that the bipolar symptoms of sza cause excessive spending and hypersexuality. And your pdoc knows that. So, it probably wasn’t the Abilify doing it.

Yes it is. It definitely gets your heart rate up if theres enough snow.

Yeah true. But also aripirazole causes those in people too. Ive seen lots of sources throughout the years showing this to be the case. But your right, i didnt think about that. The bipolar part of my sza is probably the main culprit in my case. Thanks skinnyme.

There is also good exercise value if there isn’t much snow, but it’s ice that needs to be chiseled now because no one shoveled for a month. Ooooof.

There’s not really a way to lose fat in specific areas it just comes off the way it comes on.

There is the Tyler Durden Technique:

Have your belly fat liposuctioned. Make it into soap. Sell it. Buy Hostess Ding Dongs. Make new belly fat. Repeat as necessary.
