Switching from Zyprexa (olanzapine) to Lybalvi (olanzapine/samidorphan)

Im going to ask my pdoc about it at my next appointment, i dont have high hopes because i have medicaid insurance so I only get generics of medication and had to get pre authorized when i switched to paliperidone, i started back on olanzapine a week ago and i know from past experiences that it is a weight gainer for me so if i could i would definitely try lybalvi because olanzapine is one of the only ap’s that is completely effective for me in regards to positive symptoms and mood stability. I wonder also if samidorphan is available as a standalone generic med that can be prescribed with olanzapine, i dont really know, but i couldnt get a clear answer from google

I was on the Invega shot(non-generic) when I was on medicaid, so it certainly is possible.

I may switch from Risperdal to Lybalvi also.
I don’t think that Samidorphan is a stand alone medication but I could be wrong.

Hopefully my insurance covers it but I may get pre authorization for it.

@Wave Did Olanzapine work for your psychosis?
It didn’t for me. Dr wanted to try 20+mg but I refused.

It didn’t work so well for me but I was on a low dose of 7.5 mg and only stayed on it for a month.

From what I previously read, you can’t yet take Samidorphan by itself, its mixed with Olanzapine in the same pill.

Dr tried up to 15mg on me then he said its not worth it going higher. 15mg+50mg Seroquel I was still psychotic.

Are you considering trying it out @Aziz?

No as 15mg Zyprexa didn’t even touch my psychosis. One pdoc suggested trying doses above 20mg but my other previous pdoc said its not worth the risk as I might end up psychotic.

Maybe try higher doses.

Yes I may try it.
It should raise prolactin less

Is zyprexa a name for olazipine?

Yes 15555555454

That was my emergency med in hospital.

Yes, its supposed to be prolactin neutral like Clozapine. My pdoc said Clozapine and Olanzapine are similar just that Clozapine is stronger, more effective. Maybe bcz both end with -zapine.

Yes there are the -pine APs and the -done APs

I head about that, it’s an opioid that offsets the weight gain when used in combination with Olanzapine.

From everything I have read it is a new combo medication. I haven’t heard anything about prescribing each med separately. But don’t take what I say as definitive, I didn’t do a lot of reading about it because I was transitioning to Lurasidone.

-pine APs are usually more sedating than the -dones

That has been my experience. Olanzapine caused me to sleep 12 hours a day. Lurasidone doesn’t make me sleepy at all.

It’s an opioid antagonist
It’s not an opioid
