Doc just put me on geodon 20 mg

i wanted to start on a higher dose but he said we will see in a month how i am doing on it than increase the dose if needed than.

Geodon is my drug of choice, too! I hope you like it as much as I do. It has been amazing for me.

what side effects have you had from it

I have zero side effects. No weight gain (I actually lost all the weight I had gained on Risperidone), no sleepiness, my sex drive is normal, and I can still think clearly. Every drug works differently for every person, though, so you might have a different experience. For a while, I was taking it in the morning and evening, and my morning dose made me sleepy. But once I switched to taking it only at night, I was fine.

20 mg Geodon is nothing. I was on like 140 or something, still wasn’t enough. but i was skinny at least

I once had apharmacist tell me while I was on geodon. That “it’s really rough stuff”

I had a terrible experience with geodon and I was on 40 or 60mgs I can’t remember. But it just totally incapacitated me and made me seemingly more psychotic. All in all it was really rough and I switched within two weeks or so to zyprexa which I’ve had success with

And yeah 20mgs is super duper low but you always want to start out that way, you never know how effective a new drug might be on you. I now take a tiny little 5mgs of zyprexa and funtional pretty well. We may increase the dose to 7.5 but even that’s really low.

i was on 10 mg zyprexa before i switched but it made me so hungry and i gained so much weight i chose geodon now because it doesnt cause any weight gain

Yeah zyprexa was my pdocs 4the choice (after risperdol, abilify and geodon) because of the weight gain worry. But so far I’ve gained a little under ten pounds and am maintaining. And I’m already pretty underweight so any weight gain is welcome. I do worry about developing diabetes or something though so I hope there are some newer meds on the way to try…I’ve tried most already lol

You really need to take Geodon twice a day for it to be effective if you are taking it for psychosis. It has a really short half life. I used to take it only at night and I would begin to get psychotic every afternoon. Now that I take it twice a day that doesn’t happen.

It does take a little while for the drowsiness to go away with the morning dose but it does eventually go away.
