Do you think schizophrenia symptoms can traumatise you?

Was diagnosed with PTSD a couple of years ago due to some childhood experiences, and it seems like just as I am at last coping with all of that, symptoms are returning from a different source… and I’m suddenly very troubled by figures and events from some past psychosis. The fact that everyone agrees that nothing real actually happened makes me feel a bit stupid for reacting like this. Like the mind has violated itself. Anyone relate?

Oh yes I have! I went to a social group for young people psychosis today. and we made some artwork, decorated canvas bags. It’s not a very good photo but here:

I don’t usually use this kind of pen, so it was interesting. Thank you for asking by the way!! I’m actually making more of those drawings to put into a mini-magazine/art collection, so I can’t post them or it’ll ruin the surprise :^P But I will make a forum post when the collection is done!

I can relate, I think. I think you have to realize that it is all about the mind. That is where we keep our experiences. So if it was the truth in your mind it was the truth for you.

So don’t feel stupid. In fact, I bet most people on here have at least a minor case of PTSD.

Not sure, I started having psychosis at age 12… one of my past case managers thing the same thing that caused the PTSD triggered the sz as well, but idk how I feel about that

There’s this principle in horror writing, something like “your mind creates the worst monsters,” except for a lot of people with sz that’s actually what’s happening… so I think it makes sense for something so personal and isolating to cause trauma… Thinking about it in terms of other people makes it easier to accept actually. Thanks.

PTSD is basicly when your feelings get sick. You feel things you shouldnt and you dont feel things you should.

I think sz can traumatize a person.
