The mindset of an unmedicated schizophrenic varies in men of whom have a tendency to harm. He could harm one or multiple people.
What would you talk about did rid of the stigma and discrimination amongst the general public most of whom aren’t educated in mental illness? The stigma has always been there even before we were born. In the past we would be put in Asylums. The recent advances in anti-psychotic pharmaceutical medication is the only reason why schizophrenics are being allowed back into the public.
People overreact to the violence aspect of schizophrenia. It’s part evolution, hysteria, media, and primate/reptilian brain response lol. Schizophrenics by and large are not violent. That being said, I wouldn’t just go up to one and poke them if they were on the street…
I’m more concerned about the politicians letting the criminals out of jail before and during this coronavirus crisis. That, and general society has been decling since the 50s. We’re starting to see the US become very unstable now. I could imagine a civil war or something in the future…the Chinese are the ‘invisible enemy’ or so Trump says about the virus…just new words for an old enemy.
Look up project monkingbird. It’s a CIA project that manipulates the media. It makes me think of CNN and Fox News and the other liberal media where it’s all fake, they get to cover what they want or told to cover, and the whole society/world thing is being manipulated 24/7 constantly. It’s part of what makes me constantly angry and upset. I think it’s designed to be that way. It’s all fake in a way.
It probably doesn’t sound relevant but it is. It’s the media and stuff that makes schizophrenics out to be bad. I only had 1 bad episode in 9 years and that was after a very dangerous UFO encounter in my back yard. It caused me to go psychotic and start threatening my family…I got 5250. Ever since that episode, I have been a nice person. I keep to myself and keep the peace. I take my meds and enjoy life.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but most killers are labeled mentally ill or insane because it saves face or something or makes the person look bad. I could give you several names, but you get the point. They probably weren’t insane but maybe normal people have a hard time believing a sane person would do that. One such person that comes to mind is the unabomber.
In case you aren’t aware, a whole week has been dedicated to talking about mental health in Canada. As a society, we are advancing towards educating the public about various mental illnesses, and that includes schizophrenia. You are a capable working citizen and you can help lower the stigma and discrimination against people with schizophrenia through your actions.
Yes criminals kill for a reason…which makes them worse people than people with schizophrenia who are violent because of their illness. This mass shooter in Nova Scotia from what I read was jealous of his girl friend or something.
I am only able to keep my employment because I take my medication and shut my mouth about my mental illness. I just do the work I am told to do and collect my paycheque. Anything in the realm of schizophrenia I stay away from.
I agree there are a lot of uneducated people who discriminate people with schizophrenia, but there are also those who help the disabled in society. People who genuinely care. I met a lawyer with the Schizophrenia Society of my province and he suffers from mental illness. He actively writes policy briefs and assists with the legal duties of the Society. You would be surprised how people treat you even when you have schizophrenia if you are a working and “normal” person in society.
Unfortunately those who assist and care for people who are disabled or have mental illnesses are few. But when you work in the domain of the general public, it is best to keep quiet about schizophrenia. Out of the 750 co-workers at the warehouse I am working at, I am probably the only who has this mental illness. The cover as you say is “working as a normal person in society”.
That’s societies problem for judging you. You can sue most likely but good luck because most schizophrenics are poor. You’re right if you hide it you might go up the ladder faster or move up in society. I don’t care anymore about that stuff. It’s wrong and it sucks. I’m not going to play their games. I will talk about my schizophrenia and collect my 500 dollars past go.
I can tell you there are probably more people who work with schizophrenia than you think. Have you heard of Elyn Saks, she is a professor or law and psychiatry with schizophrenia. She speaks and actively advocates for people with schizophrenia. She writes that she has interviewed other successful professionals with schizophrenia. They exist out there, but the ones who speak up are far and far between. If you work at a warehouse then yes, I agree, people there will not be understanding of your illness.
In a super market full of 400 people, expect 4 to have schizophrenia. I’m sure there are more than 4 people who are messed up or screwed up. It’s just basic math here folks.
My best friend is a cardiologist, he deleted and blocked me when he knew I have SZ. I thought doctors were more understanding of mental illness…
Anyways I have 2 friends now and they are ok that I have SZ. I only talk to them online though, I stopped hanging out with them since I switched from Abilify to Latuda.
Yes you are right more people need to speak up about having Schizophernia, but I personally don’t think Social Media is the right place to do it tbh.Anxiety and Depression is brought up all the time on this platforms, but unfortunately the stigma with Schizophernia still exists wrongly in my opinion in 2020
No, statistically speaking schizophrenics are mostly unemployed and receive disability benefits. This is the majority of schizophrenics that I have come to know. Those schizophrenics who are successfully employed are few and range in the 20% all of whom are considered high-functioning schizophrenics.
I am not going to risk my employment just to remove the stigma and assumption about schizophrenics. I was on disability benefits prior and I will say being employed provides more income and you feel rewarded being a part of society.
I disagree. I would rather keep my mouth shut about schizophrenia and not risk losing my job. However, I agree that social media is not the place to discuss mental illnesses.
